I have heard loads of names put in the frame for the managers job but have not heard Paul Jewells name mentioned. Think he would be a good choice!

He's been mentioned plenty of times on here; by me at least.

He'd be a SHREWD appointment as Albion SUPREMO.

Derby fans might not be in total agreement with you there.

You'll be able to say something similar with ANY manager we get linked with.

True-but Jewell's time at Derby was quite spectacular for all the wrong reasons.

Paul Jewell's year from Hell: Sex, slumps and Robbie Savage

The Damned United, a film about Brian Clough’s 44-day disaster at Leeds United, will be released next year. An adaptation of David Peace’s brilliant novel, it’s billed as the inside story of the most catastrophic managerial reign in English football history.
And that’s exactly what it was. Until Paul Jewell took over at Derby County.

Compared to the year Jewell’s just had, Clough’s time at Leeds looks almost serene. Jewell has quit after a scandalous 12 months involving sex tapes, player bust-ups, allegations of match-fixing and an unwanted record as the worst team in English football history. Fittingly, today’s official club statement announcing Jewell’s resignation spelt his name wrong.

Clough, Jewell’s most successful predecessor as Derby manager, always regretted leaving the club. Despite the stunning success he had at Nottingham Forest, a part of Clough’s heart always remained in Derby, the city which remained his home for the rest of his life. Jewell, in contrast, will never want to step foot in Derby again.

Here’s a look at the five lowlights of Jewell’s 2008.

1) Barnsley 2-0 Derby
Derby – already the worst team in the history of the Premier League – set a new record for awfulness in August. The defeat at Barnsley condemned Derby to 36 games without a league win – the longest streak in the history of the Football League. They went almost a year (Sept 22 2007- Sept 13 2008) before breaking their duck and taking three points against Sheffield United.

2) Robbie Savage
Taking Savage to Derby was Jewell’s worst decision. In fact, it might be the worst decision any manager made this year. Savage was detested by Derby fans for his shameless dive to win a match-winning penalty for Leicester in 2001. So bringing him back to the club, on £25,000 a week, and then making him captain, was a bit of a strange one. Savage was eventually shipped out on loan to Brighton, where he spent most of his time “watching porn in the hotel.” Savage’s last game for Brighton was against Leicester, and he was withdrawn at half-time with Albion 2-0 down. They went on to win 3-2.

3) News of the World sex scandal
Very few people would have entered the words “Paul Jewell” and “Sex tape” into a search engine. But after a recording of his nocturnal activities made the front page of the world’s most read newspaper, Jewell joined a notorious cast list that includes Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton. “For once, it wasn’t just his team that got spanked,” remarked one internet poster who was “lucky” enough to see the video before it was removed.

4) Match-fixing
After a year like this one, Jewell could really have done without the scandal which surrounded Derby’s win over Norwich. Irregular betting patterns were witnessed and the FA were asked to investigate. “It’s something that as far as I’m aware is nonsense,” said Jewell. “It’s just such a big surprise that Derby went down to 10 men and won a game.”

5) Tyrone Mears
The defender was so desperate to leave Derby for Marseille this summer, he reportedly sneaked out of a window and crawled past Jewell’s office on his hands and knees to avoid detection.
