Junk e-mail:- Is it getting worse?

51 e-mails in the mail box this morning.

46 of them were about cheap Viagra and other life enhancing medications, debt management, "that banned CD" and how to lose weight.

Is it just me, or has the quantity of this rubbish arriving in people's mail boxes doubled in the last week?

Yes - I agree - my hotmail account was full of the stuff when I eventually managed to get into it - and my work account now as well - I'm sorry but I don't have a penis to enlarge!!

Yes, very much worse.

i deal with a lot of enquiries in my job out of seperate email box to my own, i'm getting 25-30 a day and there is absolutely nothing i can do about it.

I went on holiday for 1 week and came back to 60 emails in my hotmail. 2 were from friends, 1 from my weekly horoscope and 3 from fishjobs.uk. The rest were junk about extensions (if you know what I mean?) and such like.

Im not doing too badly . . . .I guess a lot of its generated by forwarded stuff, people picking up addresses, registering for things and not ticking the 'please dont harass me' boxes

My husband was getting over 100 a day.

I don't get any at all.

He has contacted those in his address book he wants and closed his email address down altogether and started a new one up.

Whatever you do don't respond or unsubscribe because all that does is confirm the email address is valid

I have over 100 a day too. It's rediculous.

There is a program you can buy that allows you to send the emails back to the sender with some sort of message stating that the address is invalid.

Apparently it works quite well....

I use a hotmail account for web site registration (and I NEVER register with sites that won't accept Hotmail or Yahoo) and then I have the junk filter set to 'Exclusive' so I don't ever see the stuff that gets sent.

I use Mailwasher (the chargeable version, not the free one) to protect my other email accounts. I've got that in 'vicious' mode so it automatically bounces and deletes emails from known spammers without me even being aware of it.

So no, as far as I'm aware spam pretty much doesn't exist!

I also use a combination of Mailwasher, and BT Openworlds own 'Email Protection' - it's filtering out over 100 a day at present, and I bounce about 30 more using Mailwasher.

My Hot ail used to be unmanagable, with a hundred a day, but I turned on their junk mail filter and I get maybe 2 or three a day now - it's really good.

Saying that, all my personal emails, job offers and suchlike probably get deleted as well. Swings and roundabouts I suppose...

Only use work one sparingly, and though hotmail used to be bad, seem to have got the filter about right now after months of consigning garbage to 'junk' status.

I dont get much junk mail, I find it all useful. Why only the other day I made £1 million laundering some money for some Nigerians before buying an enlargement and something to burn CD's with as a result. All through Tiscali. Brilliant.

I have my hotmail account set to safe or something, meaning only mails on my safe list go to my inbox, the rest into the junk folder. I still have to check the junk folder anyway incase something new I subscribed too or ordered goes into there!

I get one a day. I have had the company kicked of 3 servers so far for breach of TOS in the last week.

I'm getting pretty good at it now. I may introduce myself to them in due course.:lolol:

I forgot about my hotmail account. There is a junk filter so I don't think about it too much.

I very rarely use the hotmail address anyway. It was only started for a net passport.

I do have two ntl addresses, one for friends and one for registering on sites. Both spam free except for Preston North End. I registered there to advertise our signed shirt for the REMF auction last Christmas (a signed Preston shirt) and they won't let me go. I keep getting copies of Craig Brown's thoughts of the week

They must be so desperate for fans ???
