I get the impression the reason Liverpool are offloading him is not just down to his footballing ability. He featured quite a lot for Liverpool early last season but then barely figured after Christmas. I think he must have had a falling out with Rodgers over his professionalism, or lack of it and that's probably why Liverpool were prepared to let him go. I tend to go along with those who say he is an average Premier League player with a decent engine, but nothing special and who was only ever going to be a squad player for Liverpool and not worth the effort with if he was a disruptive influence.

This.

His sending off and subsequent abuse at Fergie was very poor sportsmanship. His touch is heavy and he always seems to play on the edge. Of course Liverpool have another ticking time bomb in their ranks but they want to keep him because he is very good, says it all that they don't feel Shelvey is worth keeping as well.

Personally I think all parties win from this transfer, Liverpool were keen to sell someone who they didn't see as first team. Especially as they have spent a lot this summer and plan on bringing in that Armenian attacking mid. Jonjo needs game time to improve himself and also Swansea's style will never harm a player. Swansea need more homegrown talent and for £6m on an English young player is not a lot.

Am I the only one thinking that Brendan Rodgers must have been pissing himself with laughter when Swansea came in with a bid of £6 million?!

I think you might be... I think he is a great prospect, just not suitable for Liverpool and , possibly in the same way, not suitable for Swansea. Ideal for Sunderland though.

not a bad player but clearly has attitude problems. £6m is over paying imo.

6 million is not a ba price. Plenty of years left in him and has the potential to be a decent footballer. Just don't think he is a Rodgers type player as he seems to struggle a fair bit with Todgers style. He had a fair number of opportunities before the new year period but onviously did not impress.

I actually think he's a good player with a lot of potential.

He proved when on loan in the championship that he was far too good for that league. If Tom Ince is worth £8 million then Shelvey is easily worth £6 million.

Very good signing for Swansea in my book.
