Liverpool showed serious interest in signing Martin after his trial but the club scared them off with a huge price tag (250k i think) which is all well and good....but then we went and released him.

Is that true? I thought he was sent for a trial at Everon, who rejected him as 'too short'.

Same difference .

Absolute nonsense.

You claimed that Slade bringing Andersen in [which he didn't] was evidence that Slade did not rate Sullivan.

Now you say he HAD to play Andersen over Sullivan for the month that he was here as rules stipulate this.

Not really the same at all, is it?

The truth I SUSPECT, is that Slade wants to bring in a new keeper of his own choosing, which of course is his right.

Clearly one of our current keepers had to go. Kuipers has a year left on his contract, which obviously we don't want to be paying up, and Sullivan doesn't. So, Sullivan goes - not through any fault of his own, but simply because he is EASIER and CHEAPER to get rid of, to make way for the new No. 1.

Perhaps JS didnt want to play second fiddle to FDM anymore because he felt he was the better keeper, so told the club he wasnt going to sign another contract, so in fact it was taken out of RS hands completly

That was my likely scenario... I don't think it really matters, what's done is done, we are going up, etc, etc.:albion2:

When interviewed on the radio JS said that it is league rules that a goalkeeper signed outside of the normal period must be played and he accepted that he wouldnt be picked.

Perhaps he doesnt know as much as posters on here think they do.

Much as you may wish to not hear it HKFC Slade could have sent Andersen back and played Sullivan if he wished and thought Sullivan was better. I think that it is obvious he doesnt rate Sullivan and doesnt see Kuipers as No 1 next season, perhaps Flinders who he brought into Yeovil.

he will go on to bigger and better things,i can only assume mr slade has been advised of his capabilities rather than seen sully play week in week out,he is a fine keeper and one wich we will see and hear a lot more of. Bad move number 1 and hopefully the last

I seem to recall it was Moyes who said he was too short, the youth setup at Everton wanted to sign him but obviously managers decision comes first. Liverpool definately wanted him and were put off by a huge figure quoted by the club (either 125k or 250k, I'm pretty sure a search in the argus archives will confirm).

Sully had promise but, as we found out with Henderson, our first team is no place for a rookie goalkeeper to learn his trade. However I do think we have released a really good prospect who will develop in to a fine goalkeeper.

must disagree generally, think he wasnt too bad on occasions but overall not good enough, spilled too many a la Horrenderson into strikers path to boot in and kicking no better than kuipers. not a really bad keeper and he could improve but still not good enough, a good call in my book, assuming of course we are getting a proper new one.

Surprised and disappointed to see Sully go. I thought a good test of a young GK was throwing him in at the deep end when the 1st. choice GK wasn't available, and if he grabs his chance with both hands (and fingertips and feet!) then he's passed the test - and I reckon young Sully did just that. Still ,the evidence of the last half dozen games suggests that RS knows ahat he's doing, so I hope he's right..........but I'm not convinved in this instance.
Still, if it all goes wrong sometime in the future, I'm pretty sure this will feature highly in the "Where did it all start to do wrong?" threads!
