Him not signing was a result of Poyet not wanting him as Bridge was already in the pipe line.

This! Though I beleive we wanted him if we couldn't get Bridge. Fair play to him for not wanting to wait and see even if not told out right you are 2nd choice, might have been strung along a bit or made a low offer so it takes long enough to agree for us to sort Bridge or not.

I think he should get a good clap. We would have had him back but not pushed boat out for him and he was only here on loan. Should only boo players who reject us openly or talk crap in media.

Mattock was good last season BUT if we had got him would we have signed Bridge (who looks as good as Ashley cole in the championship).

I'm happy we didn't sign him now!

Played for Albion, scored for Albion. Both the club and he benefited, neither is upset so he gets a level of respect. He gets a slightly different reaction than any other away player, but not as if the prodigal son has returned.

He was very good left back for us at a time when we had no other fit specialist player for that position - was disappointed when he signed for Shef Wed

However having seen what Bridge is capable of - he is in a different class altogether

Mattock deserves a good reception, quality player

Joe Mattock, who is despised by the fans of his former club (that's Leicester City by the way) was fairly good as an attacking left back BUT was not that great defensively.

Whoever we have attacking that right flank tomorrow, Bucko perhaps, will absolutely shaft him.

I suppose we should however remember that prior he was also a Pompey loanee so I suppose we should sympathise with him as an 'Orphan'

Over 50% of our fans (in a poll) wanted to sign him. Not me though. I wanted Wayne Bridge as first choice. Wayne Bridge is the third best left back I have ever seen live. First was Kevin Beattie.

I thought he galavanted up the wing and left a hole at the back. On a plus side he could take corners. I hope he plays.
