A week to go and only 4 in it. I for one will be second half only on Saturday to watch the hopefully thrilling climax.

Think Hughes will be in America by then, so it may not be quite so thrilling as you'd like. Believe he is currently trying to organise things so that he can ride on Friday and still get to Kentucky in time for the Breeders' Cup, but Louisville is a bloody difficult place to get to, even when you're flying First Class, and if he's got any sense he'll head off on Thursday.

Have to admire the way he's kept going though, the physical and mental hardship of keeping his weight at 8st 7lb when it should be more like 11st would finish most people off, and that's before he's sat on a horse.

Hughes just two behind after this afternoon's meeting but was unable to get to Kempton this evening as his helicopter was grounded. He is now NOT going to the Breeder's Cup and will ride at Doncaster on Saturday. He is not allowed to ride on friday though, whether missing this evening's meeting changes that I don't know. ???

It will be interesting to see if Zenyatta can become the first filly to win the Breeders Cup Classic 2 years running. She's got the right trainer with John Shirreffs who has won all three legs of the Triple Crown with different horses.
