I don't know if I've missed something, but I was told by a good source tonight that it was a genuine personal reason tonight and nothing to do with wanting away/transfer speculation.

That's not to say he won't go in the summer, of course - he's one of the most likely.

IF he's sulking, wants away, or taking duff advice from his agent, then who in charge of the 'no dickhead policy'? Aren't we supposed to have all the data on this sorta thing. I mean Cucurella, Caicedo, Pedro, Trossard, Sanchez, Andone and Undav all throwing strops and wanting out within their first year or two.

Is this because we are known as a selling club, so if they don't get their move when they want it, they become difficult. I don't recall other similar size clubs having the same issue with players.

Like I say, could be nothing in this but we do have a history of being victims to this sort of behaviour.

That's such an easy rumour to make up, I wouldn't give it a second glance. We get this kind of stuff all the time.

Problem is that 'personal reasons' is always seen as a euphemism, so no one believes it when there are actual personal reasons.

And everybody is so quick to get out their pitchforks, and it feels like many want to fit a stereotype to him - young, flair, Brazilian, braided hair - so must be sulky, arrogant, lazy, individualistic. Fact is he is a supremely talented young player still early in his football journey, who is one of our hardest working players this season (the shift he put in at Newcastle was amazing), was clearly respected enough to be made captain and whilst he doesnt always make the right decisions on the pitch (yet), the ability in his feet is clear to see. Passionate too, his geeing up the crowd would be lauded if it was Dunk or Hinshelwood or van Hecke, but in some bizarre twist it was used a stick to beat him with.

He hasn't been at his best of late, and the red card and near red card incidents perhaps speak to him having issues. But I expect to see him continue to blossom, whether here or elsewhere.

Swap deal for Nunez? I know he’s been crap for Liverpool but the algorithm liked him before and a change of environment may be what he needs to get his confidence back

Liverpool or Arsenal seem the most likely destinations in the prem if Pedro goes

I can't remember the last time I saw a player swap deal actually happen. I know the rumour-mongers love to talk about them, but when was the last one that actually took place? Have there been any between top-flight English clubs this century?

Not having a go, just curious as to why this kind of thing gets mooted so much more often than it actually happens.

The most notable one I can remember was Alexis Sanchez going in return for Mikhitarian (sp) - but even in recent days we’re said to have offered a player (Sima) plus cash deal for that other young Greek striker we’re after.

We’d agreed a player swap deal for Dewsbury-Hall in exchange for Moder with Leicester, but that fell through when Chelsea got involved and teased an offer for Dewsbury-Hall, leading it to collapse.

I think the issues with player swap deals are many, there’s no single reason why they don’t happen much. A combination of;

- the sheer number of moving parts involved - agents, clubs, both players wanting the move.

- FFP amortisation and accounting gets tricky with different contract lengths, wages, and so forth

- clubs overvaluing their players

It does still happen (I think Nottingham Forest did a player swap deal this season or last, Dominguez maybe? @Redinpeace )

It’s just usually not worth the hassle than hashing our individual deals - especially as far the agents (who are receiving a percentage of the transfer fee) are concerned!

I can only remember the Andy Cole -Keith Gillespie swop between ManU and Newcastle in the mid 90s, and then the Bobby Zamora - Jermain Defoe swop between Spurs and West Ham that did us out of a sell on fee. Possibly a few more in the lower leagues, but outside of Villa and Chelsea doing some canny FFR swops of youngsters can't think of any others

I don’t feel it’s a stereotype, more what I’ve seen with my own eyes this term. He’s blown hot and cold all season, hasn’t been a team player for most of it, seemed to spend his game as captain remonstrating with his team mates, posted those ill-advised Insta post-Palace Marbella photos, elbowed at an opponent but thankfully missed and avoided a red in one game but sadly continued his his anger into a subsequent game and got sent off.

This isn’t “pitchforks”, just the realisation maybe it’s best for both parties if we go our separate ways.

I don't recognise a player who has been anything other than a hard-working team-player this season. The red and near-red could be symptoms of whatever is going on in his personal life at the moment, or frustration on the football side, or just heat of the moment incidents that he will iron out in time, we don't know, but I have felt the ire and criticism towards him this season from a section of fans strange and unwarranted. If he goes to better himself he goes, thats our model, but if he goes because people think its 'best for the Albion' that is very sad indeed

Is it possible to have data on dickheadedness?? Footballing stats are easy. Other than that it’s just a case of scouts asking around to find out what they’re like.

That’s strange, if you read this thread he’s on the Copacabana, with a copacabana and trying to order a second.

I've always said that if we had to sell one of our stars he would be my choice. However, I got told on Friday that he had personal problems and may not be available, so maybe hold on the pitchforks and burning torches for a bit and see what happens ???
Yes definitely worth waiting and seeing rather than going all in on him now and he's the least of our bigger players I'm worried about leaving. Cam be replaced easier than many others and has been out a lot.

But that just spoils a lot of people on here’s agenda who want to confirm him as bad egg and bin him off rather than one of the best players who has ever played for this club and given us some of the best memories we will ever have as Albion fans.
