Hasn’t he recently been playing No 9 for Brazil? That’s got to be worth something, especially at his age.

This is what I think. We paid £30M two years ago and I think that was about right. By the end of his first season I thought he could be a £100M striker, but doesn't seem to have developed as quickly this season as last, so maybe £50-60M is about right currently.

But he is still only 23 and Brazil's no 9. I would have thought that should bring a premium and I wouldn't bet against him being a £100M striker by the end of next season.

So I think, taking all of that into consideration ....................

........ whatever Tone decides

Club would want £70M minimum > starting price I would think.

– Decent length of contract left
– 23 years old / prime
– Proven PL scorer
– European pedigree too
– Exceptional penalty taker
– Goals, assists and all-round game
– Brazil No.9
– General match-winning box office appeal

All being said, I hope he sorts his head out, stays and gets back to the RDZ era form + performance... because he was stellar.
I agree with all the above

I think it’s both likely and welcome that he won’t be allowed to leave for less than £100m. I think he would be a huge asset for Liverpool as the ideal replacement for Nunez and they have a considerable war chest due spending very little last summer. If they can find better value with another player then good luck to them and we get to keep him. Win-win for us.

As others have said, the fact Naylor broke the story is pretty damning.

Naylor saying yes to a a potential new signing is seen as a gold seal on here. That’s because he appears to run every story past the club and then reports what they want him to. I don’t think he’d report his house being burgled unless the club gave him permission to call the police.

For him to suddenly not only report that a player was dropped due to an altercation with another player; but to break the story, without the clubs explicit permission doesn’t happen IMO.

Naylor has one of the most cushty jobs you can imagine. He gets paid to write articles with absolutely no emotion, no pizzazz, no chutzpah. He churns out matter of fact cookie cutter articles and reports apart from when the club feed him what are extensively press statements he can claim as exclusives. In return he doesn’t rock the boat.

This isn’t meant as a dig at Andy, I totally understand why he does it. He’s a bloke who took a job as a sports journalist at a small local paper to write a club nobody outside of a few thousands locals really cared about. 30 years later they’re in the biggest league in the world and he’s writing about them for an international paper on an internet he could never have imagined when he started writing about Brighton. In his situation I’d coast on easy street too, especially as he nears retirement age.

I don’t see a world where Naylor finds out about the JP on JP hate crime and
A) publishes it without double checking it’s true with the club.

B) publishes it before anybody else when the club have told him not to.

I’m personally of the opinion that how the story broke means we’ve seen the last of Pedro in a Brighton shirt. I’m not happy about that as I think he’s an excellent player but if his sale means we hold on to Van Hecke, Baleba & Mitoma then I’m sure I’ll cope with the news.
Not seen the Naylor story but, what is it about Brazilian forward players ? Take yer pick, Antony at United, known for being hot headed, feisty and a walking red card, Richarlison at Spurs, known for being hot headed, feisty and a walking red card, Cunha at Wolves, known for being hot headed, feisty and a walking red card and João Pedro at the Albion, known for being hot headed, feisty and a walking red card..... anyone see a pattern forming ?

PL goals are the gold standard.

10 last season, 6 non-pens.
9 this season, 5 non-pens.

He’s not a £70m striker, but it’ll be fantastic if TB banks the best part of £100m.
When he plays with Welbeck, he is not really a traditional No.9. A lot of time spent in attacking midfield and on the left wing.

I'm sure he'd have bagged a few more if he'd be playing where Isak plays for Newcastle.

So, reasonable stats for a genuine all rounder who can produce a world class assist/through ball, dribble around a player and hold up play to a very high standard and has an exceptional touch (maybe second best in our squad) and genuine pace. He can also score every sort of goal, be it with either peg or the head.

He won't eventually end up at a team that just require a specialist Haaland No.9 type player but I suspect the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal require a striker to be to be multi-faceted. He'll do well if he leaves.

Yeh, I think everything about our bargaining position says we're in a strong position ..... and if Joao had a plan to reduce the strength of our position and force a cut price move, I don't think it will work

This season, in September 2024, he wasn't named in the original squad but was called up as a late replacement. He was an unused sub against Ecuador and came on as a half-time sub in a 1-0 defeat away in Paraguay.

He was then called up in March; started and played 60 minutes in a win at home to Colombia and then wasn't used in a 4-1 defeat away in Argentina.

So, a bit-part player at best.

Chelsea are interested? Oh happy day! £80 million incoming :clap2:

Which one of their trash players would you actually want in return though? Seriously? Undoubtedly they'll be trying to offload some of the crap ones like Lesley Ugochukwu or that lad they signed from Villa last season for a vastly inflated fee to beat the PSR system. No thanks.
Perhaps big Bob will come back!🤣🤣

Both require ultimate squad players with no histrionics or issues. Arteta shed the players who didn’t turn up every week. Saying that, he’s desperate to turn them into a team not built on chiselling out no goals conceded.

Even I've softened a little bit on him since I saw him shaking hands and hugging most of our squad (as did Caicedo). It made it even more noticeable that every single player avoided Cucurella, giving him a VERY wide berth as he went straight down the tunnel :wanker:

Still Booo him constantly though while there's a chance of him dropping the ball to one of our strikers or hitting an inch perfect pass to one of our midfield

No taking his caps away from him of course, and it’s amazing to have a current Albion player representing Brazil, but I’m not sure even Joao himself would claim he’s Brazil’s no. 9.

(Just happened to be his number in the most recent squad)

They are most fortunate with their goalie.
