Some could say that the Tories started it all in the late 70s and 80s, when we lurched from recession to recession. This 'mess' is nothing more than a manipulation of figures and journalistic rhetoric. The financial world is highly subjective, and is far too complicated for even our ruling parties to understand.

Probably fair comment.

The top rate of income tax under the Labour government was 40% right up until just before the last election. They put it up to 50% to try and look a bit socialist and get a few more votes.

Gideon has simply reduced it a bit as it wasn't generating any more income and to try and look a bit conservative.

This country is financially shafted and will remain so for generations to come, where do those who oppose public spending cuts think that the money comes from?

I struggle to get my head around this 'does not generate any more income' arguement. I do not believe the reasons.

........JD actually goes down a storm when he trots off to the various military bases around the world, he talks their language......

Having been an expat for a number of years I can definitely say that Brits abroad are a lot more patriotic than when we're at home in the UK. You don't see people standing up for the National Anthem on TV here. The language Davidson talks is patriotism and that always goes down well abroad. I'd put him in the same bracket as Bob Hope was for the US forces - even though he was really one of ours. Whether or not either of them are/were funny is a different debate - but both had great one-liners.

No, that "So all us older ones and our parents must have loved him" claim.

Well not all MIster Prankster obviously but enough for him to be one of the highest paid performers. I couldn't stand him and would have stuffed the cuddly toy, the rotisserie and the set of matching luggage straight up his jacksy given half the chance. Doesn't change the fact though that he was a popular guy in the day and those poor misguided folk who loved him should be cut a little slack of the subject matter of his humour.

If unfunny was a prerequisite for being berated at the Amex, you would of been hounded out years ago.

Oh dear. What a limp come-back.

But then, I've never attempted to make a living from being an unfunny, alcoholic, wife-beating, bigoted tax-dodger. Jim Davidson has.

a reality check for the tedious left on here

Interesting. Someone who announces their sheep-like ignorance by agreeing with a meaningless limp statement. You realise you've now broadcast that...?

Tell you what I find interesting TLO, your use of alcoholism twice in this thread as an insult. Or is it just a generalisation that all alcoholics must be wife beaters.

You've managed to determine that from my posts?

In Jim Davidson's case, he has had problems with alcoholism and spousal battery. The two may be linked, they may not be. But to assume a generalisation from those posts is making quite a leap.

Not to me it wasn't, in fact it was quite easy to assume that after you used the expression "unfunny, alcoholic, wife-beating, bigoted tax-dodger" twice.

In any case removing the link between the two, should you disagree with another poster on here who is a known alcoholic, would you then mention it to reinforce your point?

If they're so much more patriotic than those in the UK, why have they settled abroad in the first place? Just wondering.

But if THAT'S the case then shouldn't you be questioning TLO on why he apparently thinks "acloholic" and "Tax dodger" are linked or why "unfunny" and "Wife beating" are linked?

It seems you are the one who has chosen those two specific points, "alcoholic" and "Wife beating" to make a link out of....
