if theres one good thing about Jerusalem . . .its not as bad as swing low sweet fekkin chariot which is an absolutely awful song and reason enough to hate rugby in itself:eek:

William Blake was(is) a poet genius, with intense spiritual reflections and religious belief.
He's actually not that difficult to read or understand, and anyone even-slightly curious about his works would do very well to investigate more.

Shakespeare and Dickens are not the only outstanding English writers who should be introduced in schools - but parents can also fill in the gaps in their corriculum.

from memory;

"He who binds to himself a joy,
does the wing-ed life destroy.
Who kisses the joy as it flies,
shall live in eternal sunrise"

.............

"who shall hurt the little wren,
never shall be loved by men.
He who, the ox, to wrath hath moved
never shall be by women loved"

W.Blake (from 'Augeries of Innocence', i believe)

All I can imgaine is that the word 'Jerusalem' means (believe or not) 'City of Peace'. It fits.

I may be wrong here, but I suspect 'salem' meant 'haven', as in 'safe home'.
Jeru, or Jehu may refer to God, and I thought 'Jehu-salem' inferred 'God's home'.

Time and interpretation do mould and change language, and so we definitely have to use some flexibility of thinking in reading ancient writings.

funny you should say that, but my mate works for Birmingham City Council Authoirity thing and they put up a poster with Freddie and the boys with the words to Jerusalem on the wall and were told to take it down as it would offend the Muslim people in the office who would object to the word Jerusalem.

Seemly they had complaints from the ethnic minority people in the office.

This country drives you fecking mad sometimes

Quite perverse. I can only imagine its was someone who doesn't understand what a multi-cultural society and workforce is about and fearful of the consequences of any action that they undertake.

Jerusalem is a world city, it cannot just disapear, would the same action been undertaken if Paris was stuck to the walls, though if it was that bint Paris she probably been unclothed or shagging a hot dog or something for an advert. Well back to the subject.

Jerusalem is a city of Jews and Muslims and Christians and probably other religious groups, whilst Palestians may want full ownership of it, nevertheless they recognise it. So the word does not confront Palestians/ Muslims.
