A lot of people were raving about Vassell before the Portugal game, based on his performances at the end of games against tired players.

When he played for 70 minutes in an important game, he was crap. What does this prove, only that you can't judge a player by one, or even a handful of games.

Owens record is very good. Yes he was off-colour in Euro 2004, but his work-rate and link-up play with Rooney was good. He is still relatively young and learning. I think the move the Real Madrid will help his game, as he was stagnating at Liverpool.

IMO, he's still better then Defoe, although Defoe would be my choice to replace Smith/Vassell as first choice sub.

is it just me, or doesnt anyonelse see owen just doesnt look hungry for goals at the moment! Kep him on the bench for a bit when rooney is back and defoe proves himself some more and then owen will start to play better! Its human nature that if ur guranteed something without trying, your not gonna giv ur 100%!

I think you are probably watching a different game. His movement in the last couple of games has been first class. What he needs is either the ball over the top as his natural game is to be on the shoulder of the defender, or on the ground 5 yards in front of him, as there are very few players that can keep up with him. However the service at times has been lacking.

Owen is probably mroe hungry for goals now than he ever has been, for starters at Real he wants to prove his worth and show that he can score just as many goals as team-mate Ronaldo. For England he will always try hard and if it was'nt for his front post run we would'nt of gone 2-1 up on wednesday. I think we will see the best from Owen this coming season and I'll have him start alongside Rooney everytime as they work very well together.

If Defoe keeps up he good start to the season then he should be on the bench, but hes not the only one wanting that spot.

People seem to be looking at Owen the same way a lot looked at Scholes, that he is in the team to score and as soon as he goes through a bad patch it's time to give him a rest, this DOES NOT work. Just because Defoe has scored one goal for England it means he's better coz Owen didn't score in that match??

I know it's not everyone but just a fe do think like this and it seem a tad silly to me.

Firstly who do you actually support?

Secondly, who can you say Defoe is world class? One good goal does not make him a world class player. If he is consistently doing this in a year or so, then maybe you can start to talk about him in those terms, until then, at best he is a form player getting a look in.
