The 2 big boys in footballs main anchor man role!

But who is the better one!

I personally prefer jeff stelling, always making it clear he's a hartlepool fan and proud, des never does that with brighton, its like hes ashamed :nono:

Sorry, that should have been a string of question marks, not a constipated smilie.

Border country.East Preston.
I never hear Des 'banging' on about Brighton.

Stelling is the man i'm afraid to say.
What he does for 6hrs week in week out is top top drawer presenting.Especially good when his talking picks up pace at around 4:40 (sadly i'm glued to the TV at this time most saturdays and not at the Withdean)

I was going to say 'Match of the Day' and 'Grandstand', then I realised that he hasn't done those for years. I don't watch the Premiership or European games on ITV so I don't know what he's been saying recently.

Ok, hes USED to always bang on about the Albion. Honestly. When he was link man for Grandstand he would often say stuff like "Great news, another win for Brighton, well done lads" as the results came in on the Vidiprinter.

Stelling is easily the best link man though.

Des is a legendary figure in broadcasting.

Jeff Stelling is great though, he makes what is basically an afternoon watching a rolling videprinter seem interesting, and manages to keep the egos of the old drunks and "not in my day" merchants like George Best and Rodney Marsh in check.

While still making time to take the piss out of comedy-named goalscorers for lowly Scottish teams.

"Good news for the many Montrose fans out there as Mwabababababwane Ndumbu-Nsungu-MBongo-Mbisto has put them ahead at Dumbarton. Possibly a name for Berti Vogts to check out there Clive?"

I wish he'd been on when Hartlepool stuck eight past Grimsby last week.

Or even the other night when poor old Montrose got pasted for nine by Hibs. A bad night for A Trialist as well as Mbongo-Ndougou etc.

All I would say is that both Stelling and Lynam are being judged by the quality of guests in the studio with them.

Stelling has built up quite a rapport with Rodney Marsh, and they work well as a pseudo-comedy duo. Both men at times are happy to play the straight man. Marsh will often bring the other guests in on the in-jkes, especially Frank McLintock or Charlie Nicholas.

Straying slightly, I did like the still scary-looking Gordon McQueen's comment last night about what he thought was a boring game for the neutral at Boro. He was dreading the onset of extra time when he said "I was really hoping that they might settle this by Golden Throw In..."

Back to Stelling, his show and manner work really well, but when he on his own, or presenting the darts, he is a bit of a muppet.

With Lynam, he has to deal the most boring 'analysts' - the poor sod. Townsend: "Let me tell you about a new set of secateurs I once bought Des. They're green, and really interesting..." ZZZZZ.

But on his own, or presenting other sports programmes, Des is class, quality and coolness personified. Send him back to the BBC. ITV sports presentations are always bollocks, and Des has had to tow the party line.
