So I've just read that Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Olympique Marseille have decided not to pursue Arkadiusz Milik, who has just 6 months left on his contract because Napoli want €15m Euros.

Now I don't want to tell Tony Bloom how to run the club, but come on, this is how to spend €15m Euro with a lot less risk than on the likes of Locadia and Jahanbakhsh.

Milik’s astonishing salary demands ruined his move in the summer to another Italian club. We’d probably need to pay him well over £100k per week. Yes, I rate him very highly but this would destroy any so called salary cap we may have.

Daily Mail "Juventus are keen for the Pole to join as a free agent at the end of the campaign. Atletico Madrid and Marseille have already had bids rejected for the 26-year-old". West Ham also rumoured to have bid. Not sure we can really compete?

Max Sanders appears likely to leave this month, last 6 months of his deal so will be a nominal fee.

Steele's new contract now means he is going nowhere.

There seems to be no place for Walton now and I reckon he'll be sold this month.

Didn’t he sign an extension in the summer? ???

Edit: Just looked it up, he did but it was a one year extension taking him to the end of this season. Silly boy (me not him).

The only left back I can recall us being linked with is Omar Richards from Reading who is in the last 6 months of his contract.

I really hope there's some truth to that, as he looks quality. Bayern are rumroued to be interested in getting him in the summer. Maybe Albion should just offer a few mil for him now, as bigger clubs will get him on a free in the summer. Though I expect Richards would prefer to see out his contract and see what options are their for him in the summer.

And I really hope the Danny Rose rumours aren't true. I wouldn't want him even on a free.

Why wouldn’t you want Danny Rose?

Not confident we’ll sign anyone, but would/could be a nice surprise.

If Richards wants to play at left back, you'd wonder why he'd want to go to Bayern given that they've got about the best in the world.

I know he's an ex England international, but he's overrated and will be on big wages. Much rather Albion went all out for Omar Richards, he has all the attributes to be a top quality left back/wing back. And would even do a better job than Rose right now.

Probably to be Davies understudy. I guess even if it doesn't work out for him at Bayern, he'll be playing (well, training) with some of the best players in the world and coached by some of the best coaches, which might end up being good in the long run, even if he leaves Bayern couple of years later having not played many games.

That said, it still might be better for him to play competitive football in the EPL, even if it's for a smaller club, which has turned out well so far for Lamptey. So maybe that can persuade Richards. Having Lamptey on one flank and Richards on the other would be pretty awesome (although Karbownik looks promosing as well to be fair).

So lets just say.... our January window ends with us having brought in Tau, Moder, Caicedo, and we have a fully fit Izquierdo & Andone. Is that enough?

I'd like us to sign a left back on top of that to replace Bernardo, and should Andone/Izzy not prove their fitness a player of equivalent position transferred in.

We could do with a better specialist LB to replace Bernardo, but it won't be easy to attract one - most of the time we'll be playing three at the back, with Lamptey and March as wing backs, so any LB might only get a game when we switch to a back four - which might only be when Lamptey and/or March are injured or suspended.

We sholudn't really write off Karbownik before he has even kicked a ball for the albion. He doesn't appear to be being recalled this month but maybe he is the fall back if we don't sign another.

Second part of the first sentence isn’t going to happen though.

Jose has ‘no time frame’ to be back involved

Andone is still 2 months away

No, of course we shouldn't - and maybe Karbownik is the plan - I'm fine with that. I was thinking more about posts wanting Rose or Richards - both would, I think, want to be 1st. choice, playing regularly, not filling in when we switch to four at the back, or when March is unavailable.

Agree with all that but being a bit greedy, and this is very unlikely, but, given the number of games Lamptey is missing, I would like to see another RWB come in. We don't have any real pacey cover there.

Andone could be ready in Feb. & any decent striker sign in January is likely to be in the last few days. If the choice is spend £20m on a striker or wait 2/3 weeks for Andone i'd assume the club would do the latter.

Real shame if he does, and we may regret it. Every time I've seen him he looks the business, though I guess with the midfielders ahead of him it's a tough ask for him to break through to the first team. I actually rate him higher than Molumby.
