That’s brilliant
.

I suppose it’s okay, as long as Baleba and Minteh don’t have to carry Milner around like that during a match.![]()

We've got Welbeck and Dunk for that, who can still both play a bit.People in the NFL talk about Tom Brady being a coach on the field. Another one I always heard referred to like this is Yadier Molina in MLB for the St Louis Cardinals who was thought of to be like a baseball manager on the baseball field. James Milner, I'm sure, helps with this purpose for Hürzeler on the pitch. His experience is invaluable for the younger players.

He’s hardly been on the pitch so definitely hasn’t been doing that role this season.
It's interesting. I don't think anyone really knew the extent of the injury and we just assumed it was because he was old. Both he and the club have their reasons for not going into detail sooner which is of course fine but it casts a different light on the situation for a player who had an excellent fitness record. If he's back to the early season level of fitness then there's a role for him as an experienced head to close out games and help the younger players.![]()

Precisely. The club simply doesn't discuss issues like this (rightly so). It's interesting. I don't think anyone really knew the extent of the injury and we just assumed it was because he was old. Adds an aerial threat from corners…I suppose it’s okay, as long as Baleba and Minteh don’t have to carry Milner around like that during a match.
Good post. He’s been an easy target for uninformed fans esp after a defeat. I agree that the club shouldn’t publish injury details. Perhaps we will learn to be more tolerant and trusting.Precisely. The club simply doesn't discuss issues like this (rightly so).
Some of the replies above seem to have been written without the benefit of reading the Grauniad article.
Milner had a career threatening injury that has required extensive rehab.
He came on at Spuds because his is now over the injury (by definition - that's how it works).
So unless he has a setback, the (understandable) sneering of those who haven't read the article is misplaced.
Absolutely this. There is no doubt Milner is a big influence in the dressing room and he'll still add that bit of knowhow on the pitch even to help see games out next season,(how we could've done with him against Wolves/ Leicester the 2 that stick out with the points dropped). Fab wants him for another season so hopefully he'll get that contract sorted.
Two players isn't enough. Odd add Webster and Steele to that vocal group. We've got Welbeck and Dunk for that, who can still both play a bit.
He maybe the best leader on pitch? But ability/fitness wise, father time hides from no man.
I was aware of the injury from people close to Milner but although I tried to allude to there being a bigger problem, it wasn't my place to share this information as I'm sure both he and the club had good reason not to share. It's interesting. The end of that article makes it sound like he's going to be a Brighton player next season. To be honest, I don't get the resistance – if it's good enough for Fab, it's good enough for me.![]()
