Question for those who are anti Milner contract extension :
If it had been announced he was being made a player/ coach would that have made a difference to how you see it ?

If and I do say IF. Milner had been on bench last season, to bring on when we was leading games, with ten mins to go. To just see it out. We would be playing in Europe next season. Maybe even in Champions league. Apparently the injury was very rare and if he is over it, his experience coming on in the second half of games could be invaluable.
He played every game for us up until his injury, the surgery then resulted in complications and left him unable to move his foot for months. That‘s neither here nor there when it comes to being recruited as a player. Because players are there to play.
And the evidence suggests Milner isn’t able to do that at this level anymore, as has been the case for a while.
971 minutes over two seasons, just a handful of games last season. and he is 40 in January.
But hey, as I said earlier, no biggie. I totally agree he is good person to have around in one form or another.
Particularly considering he's when won just about everything going in club football. He'd be quite within his rights to think "yeah, I've done that now", so to get back to playing really is something from such an awful injury. If you listen to or read interviews where he’s spoken about the injury it’s sounds horrible. Not being able to feel his foot after surgery for a few months must have been a real struggle and left him questioning if it was the end of his career or if he’d even walk properly again.
It’s a testament to his mentality that he’s worked his way back from that. Even if he doesn’t get many mins a week having someone with that mentality (along with someone like Solly March who has come back from 2 serious knee injuries) in the dressing room will be huge for our young players. He’s no doubt a father figure and someone our very young squad can talk to without them being part of the management setup.
If he does get on the pitch his experience could be vital in closing out games.
Milner on the bench and helping with coaching and player liassons makes a lot of sense .He played every game for us up until his injury, the surgery then resulted in complications and left him unable to move his foot for months.
That's just unfortunate, he may come back and be an important part and the coaching staff have clearly seen enough for him to warrant an extension.
Well I’m guessing Mr Bloom has done just that himself, and decided that it was worth the outlay, and so reinvested again. I’d argue he’s better placed to assess how his investments have performed than you are.Maybe stop for a second and ask your smug self what return Bloom got for presumably the same kind of outlay this season just gone
