I am amazed we are giving a 39 year old who was injured nearly all season another year unless manager is has been caught up in helping him get appearance record. I will be cheesed of if he starts any game as will many players.
I can just accept there may be a role for him in last 15mins if we are 3 up

I don't wish to appear facetious, but how many premier league teams have you managed ?

Considering the jaw-dropping number of players in their teens and early 20s we will have in and around the first team squad next season, this looks a particularly shrewd move to me. He's got experience, nous, passion and commitment in spades to help learn them young 'uns. Very happy to trust Fab, Uncle Tony and the rest know what they're doing on this one.

I think that says it all. I guess he's basically a player coach at this point. If Fab, the other players, and Tony see value in having him around then who are we to argue. Even if he spends the season on the bench, there's value in having a personality like his around the team who's played at the very top and won it all. Who is available on a free and about 30 years younger.

Great news can't buy what he brings.
I bet you can for 80 grand per week

Henderson is available and much younger

Please don’t anyone complain again we are the top of the injury league every season. It’s part of the strategy to get small amounts of games out of squad players

Lots of positive reactions on here which surprises me. Yes, he was used mainly as a "closer" later on in his career, but for us, when he has played, he just seems off the pace. I hope you lot are right and I'm wrong.
It's not really a question of any of us being right or wrong. As we've established, no-one has a clue what Fab's plans are for him, if he is fully fit or what discussions went on. But the club has clearly made a considered decision and concluded that he is worth keeping around (in whatever capacity) for another year.

I've asked the question of how much he is earning to posters who suggested they were privy to that information. I'm sure one of them will be along soon to confirm the figure that will either reassure fans that it's less than they thought, or make them go apoplectic with RAGE because so much is being SPAFFED up the wall on Milner's millions :lolol:

Fab’s complete quotes on Milner contract“ “I’m really pleased we will have James with us again this season.
“Last season he wasn’t able to help the team on the pitch as much as he would have liked, but around the squad his experience is invaluable, especially for the younger players.
"He’s a great guy to have in our environment, who is always there for me and the team. I’m looking forward to working with him again.”

I asked Chat GPT to sum this up in two words.

It came up with : EXPENSIVE CHEERLEADER

Pleased.

If he can stay fit, absolutely vital part of the team/squad and some of those points that were literally thrown away don’t happen for me…..

So what?

Everyone has made assumptions about fitness, game time, salary and fack knows what else, but no-one actually has a clue about any of it.

Fab wanted him, the decision-makers agreed, so he's still here. In whatever capacity he wants and needs to be!

You and I agree on the main thing. Milner staying at the club is a good thing for his influence on the players (undeniable ) and fab wants him around (undeniable ).
