Surely this has "Sven Signing" written all over it.

It's a name he's heard of, and someone he can still bring in now, even with the window shut. Whether the player is worth the transfer fee / wages doesn't seem to come into it, he's just high on the rush of signing players, and it's a rather scattergun approach.

We've done that in the past, and it was horrible. I much prefer the Gus / Bloom approach of seeing a target they like, research him properly, and then chase until you get him.
