Strange how Jake is now ready and being named man of the match when two weeks ago he was not ready?
My god thats some coaching staff we have there.

I wait to be slapped down by London Irish!!

Although we weren't playing Plymouth two weeks ago - tic tacs. ;)

The forward who gets the first goal and who is a local lad is always going to be a decent shout as man of the match, but for me the class of the game was in this order 1) Seb Carole 2) Paul McShane 3) an arm-wrestle between Jake, Chippy and Henderson.

Isn't it funny that for the past 12 months everyone's been saying we can't play Knight & Robinson up-front cos theyre too small, and then we start winning with Knight, Robinson, Carole & Jarret up-front!

It will probably be a case of different strategies against different teams. They might not be as effective against teams with other styles of play.

I think the main reason that Jake is starting games know is his attitude. His ability was never in doubt, but he needed to understand that ability on its own is not enough you also need some desire and the williness to fight for you place.

Waiting game suits Jake fine
by Andy Naylor

Albion prospect Jake Robinson admitted today manager Mark McGhee was right to keep him waiting for another first team start.

Fans have been clamouring for the 18-year-old striker to be involved in Seagulls' Championship campaign from the kick-off.

Robinson, promoted from the bench to the starting line-up in Albion's last three League matches, followed up his goal as a substitute in the Carling Cup at Shrewsbury last week with the opener in yesterday's 2-0 home win over Plymouth.

"I am sure the manager knows what he is doing," said the teenager from Newhaven. "He has done a great job already at the club. He has got a good record of bringing young players through, so I trust that he is making the right decisions for me.

"I've heard a lot of fans want me to play but I will play at the right time. It's happened this season and I've done all right so far."

Robinson's early goal, his first at Withdean in the League, and a long-range effort straight after half-time by stand-in skipper Richard Carpenter gave Albion their first win of the season.

McGhee said: "Jake was terrific. His movement getting in behind people was fantastic. He's been showing that sort of form in a couple of reserve games.

"That's why we put him in because we needed that. He's earned his place in the team and he's kept his place well."

McGhee is still hoping to strengthen his squad before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

McGhee prefers to play with a target man. I'd have thought he needs to be persuaded to go with two small strikers. But to his credit he can adapt his thinking and play to the strengths of the squad.

So credit to McGhee. But he will know it will not always be appropriate - and we will need a target man for some games or parts of games.

we play better with smaller players as it forces us to keep the ball on the deck. some slick passing to feet yesterday was delightful to watch

Not true- we've played crap with small players up front as much as we've played well! We still hump high balls up to them!

Still, it's looking hopeful for the future if they can pass it like they did yesterday.

Did it occur to any of you Jake-lovers that McGhee's played a tactical masterstroke- supposing he'd started the season in the first eleven and played a blinder for four or five games at this level.

Where would be be today? Dreading the Premiership transfer window, that's where, and praying our little arses off that nobody came in with a last ditch, deadline beating bid for him by Wednesday.

Chew on that, all you armchair experts and critics of McGhee. At least we'll keep the lad until Christmas now, barring another rush of blood from Wee Gordon Strachan.

Not playing your best players is hardly a master stroke. More like McGhee didn't think Jake was good enough when we all knew he blatently was.

It is very much like how we played at Derby, on this time we found a finish. Excellent football.

And Crewe! There is such a fine line between success and failure. At the end of the first-half yesterday, we gave Doumbe a free header from 3 yards out to equalise. Exactly like we did Mawene at the end of the game on Saturday at Preston. Thank heavens for central defenders, eh?

The difference with Crewe was that our opponents fluked a free kick in.

We have not quite had our due reward for our earlier performances this season but this Bank Holiday weekend the rub of the green turned our way at crucial moments.

Let's enjoy that because the rollercoaster ride will have its dips again soon enough!

the reason that the front players were so successful on saturday was that they were suited to playing against the plymouth back line. they were all slow to turn, and couldnt deal with the ball on the deck

however, against other teams this season we are going to face defenders who are not as physical and more suited to the ball on the ground, in which case mccammon and the beg fed will be the better options up front
