I'd rather we keep it all a bit quiet until he is signed up to a pro contract and we can shout about him without fear of Villa poaching him.

I'm really not happy about the JR fan club guff. I know that it's meant well, but I think it's putting undue pressure on the lad.

As Thimble Keegan says, we're raising our expectations so high that if he doesn't score in his first couple of games then the crowd will turn against him - as happened to Chris McPhee.

I'd rather he kept a low profile and developed at his own speed.

I cannot deny that I'm very excited by what I'm hearing about Jake, but I am also concerned that he is not built up as our saviour, as this will put huge pressure on the lad, that he doesn't need. Personally, I'm very worried about Rooney this season, as I fear the adulation is going to his head.

Also, all the time Jake is too young to sign a pro contract, I'd rather we try to keep him a bit quiet.

I understand the motives behind this Desert Orchid, and it is highly commendable. Should Jake come through, then he will undoubtedly get a better chance to develop here than at a bigger club, he will received huge level of support, and could be the spearhead to a marvellous future for this football club. A talented young, local star would be superb, and I hope it happens.

But I don't want to build him up too far too soon.

What might be good, is for someone to keep us informed as to when and where JR will be turning out for the Albion in U19, U17 and hopefully reserve games, and a few of us try to get along.

Where do the youth sides play? Are the fixtures played on a Saturday morning? Could be fun to go to the games on the way down to Withdean.
