I think he should have squared it, although having watched Propper's attempts to finish in recent games maybe he decided he was more likely to score even though Propper had an almost open goal...

This. Although he had every right to take the shot, he let the ball go too far forward and a sideways clip would have given the team a better chance of a goal.

But... we do desparately need all the team to have more confidence to shoot when the opportunity arises.... in a crowded box we always seem to be looking for 'one more pass' rather than grabbing the chance and putting the ball goal-wards. Because of this, we really cannot complain when a player makes his own chance and then takes it rather than passing the ball.
