We must just accept we can't afford to bring in a decent striker.
This was always going to be the case when we went up. It gives Piercy and Robinson a good chance to impress, and knowing how we operate I bet McGhee will get a loan player in to support.

I reckon all this talk of 4 new players coming in is bollocks - granted they are probably needed but if we a'int got the cash to pursuade big Chris to accept the 2 year deal he was offered, what hope is there of a better forward than that joining the club.

I still think McGhee will see us all right this year though - but I think the 'Loan' system is the best we can hope for to supplement the squad.

I believe that part of the negotiations with Stoke re: the free transfer included a clause that we had to pay a fee if we signed him on a longer term contract and got promoted - so presumably part of that clause would not be applicable - saving us a bit of dosh for someone better!!!
very good point i for 1 had not thought about! that was part of the deal which would surely give mm a tiny bit more scope to work with

no where in that article in the argus does it say he imformed the club where he was. mm says

"i had hoped chris iwelumo would be in but he wasn't,i understand he's in talks with doncaster and wimbledon"

if he was speaking to them out of courtesy he should have imformed the club he would be missing the 1st few days of training for that reason and then mm would have known the score but he obviously dosen't.

when leon went to speak to qpr sc knew where he was

The article does not say the club did not no where he was either.

We knew about Leon because The Argus knew of QPR's intrest and spoke to him about it. I imagine they'll catch up with Chris know that they know he has been approached by these other clubs.

I'm not saying Chris has done nothing wrong but lets not jump to presumptions when we don't know!

Maybe this is something to bring up at a fans forum if we have one this year.

In that case McGhee would have said " I hoped he wouldn't talk to other clubs but he has" and not " I'd hoped he'd be in but he wasn't" If he'd been told in advance he wouldn't have been expecting him.

Was Leon inert or inept?

If Big Chris is not interested in playing for the Albion at the salary that the club have offered, let him take his chances elsewhere. I'm not sure that he was that good anyway but I'd probably say that as well about one or two other members of our current squad.

In the games I saw, Iwelumo never did enough to make me think he could do a decent job for the Albion. I will not be disappointed if he does choose to leave. But with the dwindling number of strikers we have, I guess it looks like another loan striker will be brought in.
