Iwelumo: McLeod's A Diamond

Former Albion striker Chris Iwelumo feels Micky Adams has pulled of a genuine coup by signing his old Colchester United colleague and close pal Kevin McLeod.
Iwelumo got to know McLeod on and off the pitch during a successful season playing in the same Championship side at Layer Road and gave the Liverpool-born winger a glowing reference.
"He is a very good player and a cracking lad," explained Iwelumo in an exclusive chat with seagulls.co.uk. "He was my roommate at Colchester. I think he is a fantastic player and has always gone to clubs and produced the goods.
"I'm sure he will do the same at Brighton. He set a few goals up for me, but he's not just a winger, there's a lot more about his game. He scores a lot of goals himself, cuts inside; he can play up front or on either side."
Scottish striker Iwelumo scored four times for Albion during a ten-game spell in 2004 during which he helped the club win promotion via the playoffs. He moved to German side Alemannia Aachen that summer before returning to England with Colchester, where he enjoyed two successful seasons before linking up with Charlton.
While with Colchester, he helped the Essex club win promotion in 2006 and then maintain their Championship status in 2006/07. It was during that second season he got to know McLeod - after he signed from Swansea in the summer of 2006.
"He's definitely a steal. I was very surprised to see him move from Colchester; I couldn't believe it when I saw he had left. Brighton have got a diamond. He is a very good lad and he'll mix in well with all the lads down there."
Meanwhile Iwelumo is relishing a return to Withdean this summer, as Charlton visit Withdean for Gary Hart's testimonial on Saturday 26th July - and says it will be an ideal warm up as Charlton bid to win promotion back to the Premiership.
"I've got happy memories of Withdean and I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. The match will be a good test for us and next season we're looking to make sure we have a good start and finish this season."
