It’s all about confidence, isn’t it?
Beginning of the season, we started out with a fairly fortuitous win at Burnley, continued with a great performance and win against Watford, then hit a bit of a lump in the road against Everton. Our confidence took a knock and to say our next 2 wins were lucky is a bit of an understatement. We then embarked on an 11 match run without a win, but, we had some good performances and some not so good. A lot of the time it looked as if our players were woefully short of any confidence whatsoever. Then, a sea change, after a pretty poor game against Wolves we seemed a different team against Brentford, who to be fair, aren’t a bad side.
The early ( ish) goal was exactly what we needed, and to get another in the first half was the cherry on the cake. You could almost see the confidence flooding back, and since that moment we have been superb. We have players who are obviously confidence players ( Maupay, Burn, Solly, Trossard to name but a few.)but, the rest of the team are now bearing the fruit of Potters quite exceptional man management skills. If we can keep up this level of confidence that gives the players the freedom to continue to play the football we’ve witnessed in the last 3 games, a couple of others over the rest of the season, this team can achieve something really special.
