I lived in Coldean at the time and my house backed onto the woods where the girls were murdered. I was 12-13 at the time and so I knew one of them and her brother...I remember it being all quite scary at the time.

The police cannot be totally blamed as other people who should have, never came forward as witnesses...Don't believe everything you read in the paper! everyone knew that there was more that 1 person involved, but there was never enough evidence to apportion the blame to two people and that's where the case fell down.

Russell Bishop was tried and found not guilty, no one else has been found guilty, so it is officially unsolved. Four years later he was tried and found guilty of abduction, molestation and attempted murder of a seven year old girl from whitehawk. He is apparently the longest serving prisoner not to be serving time for murder. He was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years in 1990.

In 2006 the high court ruled there is not enough evidence to retry him for the babes in the woods murder.

I live in the road where the two girls lived, I will not comment on the case as such, suffice it to say that there is still a big underlying feeling of anger, especially as that bastard could possibly paroled soon. I also worked with one of the girls uncles, and some of the things he told me made me sick to my stomach.
