The pity is that some people are so small they can barely see over their keyboards. The usual suspects have been proved wrong yet again over Ashley Barnes and yet they have not admitted that they were wrong let alone apologised. Still long may they post, just a shame they can't see how laughable their opinions are.

It's early yet but will Holroyd's detractors be eating humble pie soon ?

I think some of the criticism of Barnes is totally ridiculous. His work rate and movement was magnificent yesterday. Okay, he should of scored 2/3 goals, but he is young and has great potential. If his playing form continues his confidence will rocket and i can see him scoring around the 15-18 goal mark. That is a decent return for anyone of that age.

Barnes did miss four sitters yesterday, had he not scored his goal would you really be making this thread?

As long as he learns to become more clinical, we should have a quality striker on our books.

My thoughts on that are different. If a striker is continually making chances like Barnes did yesterday he will score goals. If it wasn't through the woodwork he would have a hatrick.

Holroyd, on the other hand wasn't making these kind of chances, but good luck to him on loan!

I'm sorry but people still slagging him off by saying he "should've scored more" yesterday are talking bollocks. The point is he was good enough to make those chances for himself, he made enough chances to get a goal. That's good play, whichever way you look at it.

I'd have put away at least 1 of those chances he had yesterday.

Fair play to him though - he doesn't have many stand out attributes at all, which makes him look dreadful at times. However, he's obviously pretty good positionally to keep getting these chances, so if he can sort his finishing out he could be a useful "fox in the box" or whatever that ridiculous cliche is.

His finishing could improve, but if he was the finished article do you think we would have picked him up from Plymouth's reserves for £80k?

But the point is you wouldn't have made those chances for yourself in the first place, so saying you would've put one away is pointless and meaningless.

Yes, Barnes quite clearly made the chance for himself when Dicker backheeled it through a defenders legs to put him clean through on goal 12 yards out.

Quite right. I'm afraid İbrahim Tatlıses seems to make these slightly ignorant comments pretty regularly. Describing the chances (Barnes made himself in most cases) yesterday as sitters is just thinking in cliches. Thankfully most people on here realise that he had a storming game yesterday.

The one-on-one he would have hoped to score, but the keeper made a good save. It happens. Great run by Barnes.

The one that hit the post was a superb shot across the keeper (with his wrong foot??) which goalie just got finger tips to.

One chance in the first half where the ball was played behind him, so hardly a sitter.

Hit the bar in the second half.

You just can't take a trite and patronising comment like "missing sitters" seriously. Superb game - great shame he didn't get a bit of luck in front of goal and take the ball home.

Cliche I know, but if he's in the right position for these chances then the battle is almost own. Given his age too, it all looks very promising.

What the f*** is wrong with you. Can't you ever let it go?? He didn't make all the chances himself and you know that's not the point he's making you snide twat. FFS

He's our top scorer so far this season so he must be doing something right.

So WW, you think you are good enough to score at league one level  I feel you are not very good at reading games and players movments off the ball, you as proven time after time are an idiot. You are an attention seeker. Saying "Barnes quite clearly made the chance for himself when Dicker backheeled it through a defenders legs to put him clean through on goal 12 yards out." is pathetic, you would be out for the count after 15 mins so wind it in.

So what was your point? If you don't have one why bother?

That I agree with İbrahim Tatlıses.

If it wasn't for Sandaza, I'd have come home yesterday pretty pissed off with Barnes for wasting glorious chances that someone with the basic ability to shoot could have scored.

He might turn out to be a good signing, and time will tell, but he needs to sort his finishing out before anyone should start raving about him.

As hard as it is for some to believe though, I'd much rather he scored the goals that fire us up than "win" arguments on a message board...
