if you have not been before why not spend the week-end in Istanbul itself , one of the most ancient cities on the planet , plenty of interest to see/do i would have thought , get yourself a guide and off you go.

Dazza..... a weekend is nowhere near enough time to see istanbul. Tell me what sort of things youd be interested in doign and where your hotel is based (it matters... istnabul does have a traffic problem) and Ill give you soem reccomendations

Agree with previous posters, a weekend is not enough.

Many Roman artefacts including the aqueduct which runs into the city and ends in a vast 'must see' cystern underground and which remained unknown to invading armies for 200/300 years or so after the fall of the Roman empire.

Oh and the spice market and grand bazaar !

Sorry I didnt get back to you earlier... not been around.

As you are near the bazaar that going tpo be a first port of call.

Other must-dos include

Aya Sofya, Sultan Ahment, the cisterns (you might alsdo have a crap lunch at the Pudding Shop too as it is part of the 'expereience')
Topkapı
Sulimaniye mosque

Id certainly spend some time at Taksim Square and maybe do some shopping round there
the military museum nearby to that is of some interest
Do the boar trip and make sure you get off at Anadolu Kavagı

You will see the big Rumeli castle on the way and thats well worth a visit
The Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora (Fatih) is lovely

also:

I would think the synagogue is soemwhere you want to visit but I think its by appointment only: you may remember there was an attck there about 15 years ago.
Dolmabahce palace is beautiful as is Yıldiz Palace (smaller) and its park
Galata ansd the Galata Tower
Walking along the castle walls (although suggest you join a group for this)

Is this enough to be going on with?

Hope you have a great time.

There's been problems on soem parts of the walls... muggings etc... usually late in the day. Can be quite a lot of beggars around too
