As Brooking is a director of the club (and doesn't hold any coaching qualifications to my knowledge) he can't be made a manager, and remain as a member of the board.

And given his inept management of Sport England (where did all those millions go) I wouldn't want him anywhere near a transfer budget thank you.

mind you, he was a cracking right-sided midfielder.

According to the BBC Sport site West Ham have now said they will be looking elsewhere if there is likely to be any significant delay in signing Pardew as manager. Chairman John has the money and the determination to make an example of Pardew and prevent the treacherous Cockney wanker from reneging on his contract, so it's looking like Pardew will be back at the Madejski Stadium cleaning the bogs out by this time next week!

West Ham will look at other candidates to be their new manager if their stalled pursuit of Alan Pardew takes much longer to sort out.

Pardew quit as Reading boss this week but Royals' chairman John Madejski has refused to accept his resignation.

That has left both Pardew and West Ham in limbo and the London club's caretaker boss, Trevor Brooking, admitted that the Hammers were considering their options.

"It was always going to be the case that we would have to look elsewhere if the situation drags on indefinitely," he said.

"We have got other names on our shortlist.

"I'm doing this role as long as it takes, but the ideal thing is to get it done quicker rather than later, because it gives that person the opportunity to get it right over a longer period of time.

"I'm happy to take on the role of caretaker until we find the right person to take us forward."

Madejski twice refused the Hammers permission to speak to Pardew, citing a clause in his contract which states he can only talk to a Premiership club and not a First Division rival.

The Football League has confirmed they will investigate Pardew's resignation if Reading complain that West Ham unsettled the 42-year-old, something the Londoners deny.

They insist they did not "tap up" the Reading boss and blame Madejski for revealing they wanted to appoint Pardew to replace former boss Glenn Roeder.

"I was as surprised as anyone it was in the public domain and that doesn't help either side," said Brooking.

"At the time we were trying to draw up a shortlist and then perhaps ask the question of what the availability was, and then suddenly you're in a situation where it's become more public, which doesn't do anyone any favours."

By coincidence the two sides meet at Upton Park on Saturday.

Pardew will not attend the match and Reading will be managed by caretaker boss Kevin Dillon.

Perhaps it had something to do with that twat Brooking announcing it live on TV on Saturday? "Our request to speak to Alan Pardew has been turned down by the Reading chairman. However, Alan is still top of our list and we will approach Reading again on Monday" was the gist of it I believe.
