Is this the moment Steve Foster was banned from the 1983 FA Cup Final?

I just found this picture on a website. Looks like he's about to get booked. So is this the moment?

Yes most definitely against Notts County John Chedoize far left if I am not mistaken. Fozzie then spent the rest of the game trying to get sent off. How times change not bothered about staying in the Prem (Div1) but desperate to play in the FA Cup Final. This was Fozzie last tight rope walk game a booking 1 match later would have put him out of the replay or the Oldham match in Div 2 the next August.

The one thing I don't get about this story is how the hell can you FAIL to get sent off, especially once you had been booked!
Stand in front of a free kick, take ages taking a throw-in, walk off the pitch without permission, take your shirt off.....how can you not get booked when trying to?

My thoughts exactly. It's not difficult to hack an opposition player down from behind is it?

He asked the ref why he hadn't sent him off halfway through the second half, the ref just laughed and winked at him.

Remember the court case to overturn the decision the Tuesday before the final? The clubs very expensive barriste,r argued that the ban could be overtured as the booking took place in a league game not an FA Cup game.

The Judge thought otherwise 'if Foster had wanted to play he should have behaved himself in the first place'.

It was the second or third story on both the main BBC and ITV news that evening (believe it kids) I think The Sun ran a 'pro Fozzie' campaign.

And on the great day itself when the teams walked out at Wembley Grealish wore a headband as homage to the great man as well.

Much as I loved Fozzie, his slowness was why we got slaughtered in the replay.... Fozzie was totally off the pace....course we'll never know but seeing how weel the team played Saturday I never understood why we brought Fozzie back.

Now I'll get ready to be flamed.

There was no way Melia was not going to play his skipper. Don't forget Ramsey got injured so he shuffled Gatting to full back. It was then easy for Foster to slot in next to Stevens. I know he thought about giving Kieran O'Reagan Ramseys place and putting Gatting on the bench. Or if Ramsey was fit dropping Gatting for Foster.

who remembers the Man U fans singing "Stevie Foster, Stevie Foster, what a difference you have made" as the goals flooded in in the replay?

Much as I loved Steve Foster in his Albion days, I can't help remembering that in his post-Albion years, whenever his side conceded a goal, he would be ten yards away from the action, sometimes even outside the penalty area, gesticulating furiously and berating his team-mates! Perhaps we just thought he was good!
