Whether we'll be top or not, who knows.

Having played for too many years than I care to remember, I would say that the manager can make a difference in team selection, tactics & motivation. However, if you ain't got the players, you won't win the games.

I think we have the players, assuming they stay reasonably fit, to mount a challenge for 'our' title. I only hope that whoever we get to replace SC keeps the team motivated and playing football, i.e. don't resort to the long ball game.

If that happens BB, I think we'll be a good bet for an automatic spot (along with QPR).

Quite possibly the top six at the end will come from the top seven now. Shouldn't write Port Vale off quite this early, Horton has clearly got them playing well. Swindon look good, Hartlepool's home record is superb, Bristol City and QPR we know all about, and Sheffield Wednesday really are too big for this division, even if they don't get out at the first attempt. We should hope that Weds continue to have to ofload players and struggle, or it'll be difficult for us to get automatic, regardless of Chappers optimism. My bet for the title is QPR, only a point behind having already been to Withdean and well into their groove now.

To go down, quite happy with Cheaterfield and County (Notts) filling two of those spots

Port Vale will be midtable IMHO (and it's not because Scott is on this board). They could possibly hope for top 8 (play offs) but I don't think they'll go up this year.
