Looks like he's making the right noises anyway

McGhee from BBC Sport

I am not going to dwell on the fact that we have players missing. We are excited about the young players we do have.
If we come out of this season still in this division with the young players getting about 50 games each then we will do better next season.

They put on a good show but we are not expecting too much this year, maybe not even next year.

I am sure Steve will think they could play better than they did.

I hope he is thinking long term. His contract only has a year to run.

He has got youngsters in and has the youngsters from our own youth squad.

The newcomers have got to learn to gel as a team. Of course he is thinking of avoiding relegation and trying to build from there.

I would hope that with his experience and knowledge MM would be looking at being comfortably clear of relegation at Easter.

Easier said than done. I imagine the 'relegation six pointers' we'll be going all out for a win. Matches against the bigger clubs will be 11 men behind the ball looking for the point kind of games.

Its not going to be a pretty season.

Well, maybe. I don't think Plymouth will be as generous defensively as Reading. By all accounts they were very tight against Millwall. Tuesday will be a tight game and although lousy defending makes for an entertaining game as at the Madjet, I hope I'm not falling into my football purist trap by hoping for something a little more controlled, steadier and more error-free.

While I am glad to see that McGhee has a vision for the team beyond this season, I was also heartened to read on the Argus site that he has not taken his eye of the ball for this season: "Even with the team I had at Millwall that got promoted (in 2000-01) we have players in our team [Albion] in certain positions who are better than the players I had then.

"They had two or three players who are better than anyone I have got, so in that respect I would put that Millwall team ahead of us at this stage, but we finished fourth so that reassures me." (http://thisisthealbion.co.uk/alb-news-story5.html)
