Much as I'm enjoying this binfest can I just point out that the family stand singing section stand up for the entire game. Always have done and it's never been an issue.

Have only stewarded behind there twice (never in there) and both games were really quiet so can't say i noticed the standing but loads more noise.

The FACT of the matter is that the atmosphere at Withers is mostly crap. This is partly to do with the lack of roof but is a LOT to do with the sometimes over-zealous stewarding.

Too many of them take their duties way too seriously, which ends up pissing people off and increasing the problem.

At away games, the amount of atmosphere is directly related to the behaviour of the stewards. At Crewe for example, they have been overly strict, which has a knock-on effect of distracting the crowd from the object of the exercise, namely supporting the team.

At Leeds however, the Stewards have, in the past couple of seasons anyway, been excellent. They are happy for people to stand, as long as we don't take the piss and this has helped to generate some of the best away atmospheres I have experienced. Also at Southend last season, the atmos was superb - we stood up.

Stewards are there to do a job but need to show a bit of common sense whilst they are doing it. Too many of those who work at Withdean take their job too seriously and need to chill the f*** out.

Good post, good post - although to be fair, at Crewe, and in H block on Saturday, it seemed as though the stewards have actually been told to show a bit of common sense.

Quite how it's gone from Jonny Dixon to stewarding I do not know...

But the stewarding is bloody dreadful, I do not care what excuses they throw up as to why the away fans can stand all game without a steward having the testies to talk to them yet it is ok for stewards to constantly get in the f***ing way of home fans pestering them to sit down every two minutes, it's utter bollocks and no doubt another factor as to why the crowds aren't there...

And, no I don't want a dull response from any stewards on here, it's bullshit, end of.

But they are only doing what the Safety Officer tells them.
