Is it worth scrimping on the cost of a Razor Blade

I can't begin to conceive of the tediocrity of having to shave every day. Luckily in my office there is no issue with stubble/psuedo beards, or any length of facial fungus, and so it's once a week with an electric on 'George Michael Stubble Setting' for me.

Not changed the blade for 4 years, shaves just as close, doesn't cut me, am I missing something?

These things are harsh for me for some reason. Thought they would be the best option. Infact the best option is to just look like a hobo.

LOL - I am so glad I am a woman - Shaving must be so tedious. Waxing is the future!!!!

Would love to use a cut throat but i'm a tad nervous as i've never tried it before.

I never pack razors when i go abroad as i use barbers and there's nothing like a cut throat shave.

Well I never thought I would move on from Gillette II disposables - but I now use the FIVE blade Fusion (spoken like Unce Gwynn). And I have to say it does give a great shave. And the blades last ages. It is coming up to one year and I have used at most five. They are expensive but it is a quality shave. And I also use a gel rather than soapy water these days.

I should say, like Cheeky, I do only shave a couple of times a week.

Another vote for Wilkinshon Quattros here. Shave 2 or 3 times a week and a blade will last 4-6 weeks before it starts ripping the stubble rather than cutting it. Always use shaving foam as well - have tried gel, and it was no good. Same with shaving oil - seemed to do nothing to assist the path of the razor over my hairy face.

As for electric razors - I've tried a few and they are ok apart from around my neck where the stubble grows in many different directions consequently, no matter how hard I tried, an electric would always refuse to shave certain bits or try and rip stubble out by the root! Eyewatering!!

Have you tried the King of Shaves razors? They give a great shave, I never cut myself and they last pretty well too.

The design doesn't take into account some people shave in an upwards motion so isn't very good for the hair right under your nostrils. I actually have every razor going as I grow facial hair fast & hardy & by far the best are Gillette Fusion & Wilkinsons Quattro. The blades last longer & anything else is a false economy.

did you keep the skin tight with an electric? and with rotary blades, keep it moving in circles, not straight lines

I have moved to electric, phillips 3d 1280 and it's fantastic

But I agree cheap blades cut me to bits. Mach 3 were the cheapest I could get away with. I used shaving oil, not gel or foam, which made a big difference
Yeah I did, it was a good one too. But it just makes my neck so raw I had to stop.

I think this is going to be my next shout, I am a 2-3 time a week man myself and thats sounds just the ticket, prfer the foam as I still get a laugh from the kids who run up to me shouting "ho ho"

I bought 10 'Laser' brand disposables from Lloyds chemist and got 10 free. They last about 3-4 weeks each and don't have any problems with razor rash. Think they cost 99p.

I got bought a cut throat for christmas but still working up the courage to use it. I tried the cheap ones from tesco and just threw them out after one use, they were dreadful.

If you do use fusion the cheapest way to buy them is to look at the promotional packs with a new handle as i saw them going for £5 with 2 replacement blades whereas a pack of 6 blades next to it was £16 so although you don't need a new handle you may as well get one (or 3).

I hate shaving. That horrible rash on my neck all the time and rip off blade prices so i brought a stubble trimmer. I dont like a clean shave feel anyway and the trimmer takes you growth down to 0.5mm so looks like a days growth which is bang on for me.

Last time i had a wet shave was September and i wont be having another one
