Mini-disaster? What, sort of like a setback?

It could take us a few years to overcome it. Where are Swindon & Bristol City teams we beat in the playoffs now, where are Gillingham who were relegated last season,. Whu should we be any different to those.

So a club in finacial trouble lossing more money is not disaster?
That's right. Our revenue capacities are so limited by Withdean anyway that swapping divisions doesn't have a mega impact.

Our current crowd dropping from 7k to 6k won't make much of a difference, and if had a good promotion run at the top of League 1 even many of those goldfish-memory fans would drift back.

An interesting poll to run following on from this one would be, "will you still go to games if we get relegated?" I will certainly renew my ST, as I can afford to do so, and it would seem silly to deny the club my support, but I will certainly not bother to hack down from London for midweek evening games against the likes of Yeovil or Colchester. It is a major pain getting to these anyway, as I don't live on the Brighton line, and have to come back to East Grinstead and collect the car. While the club will not directly lose revenue, as I will have paid for the season ticket, it will lose in such things as catering revenue, and I suspect many who go on a match-to-match basis will also decide not to go to midweek games. In addition, while I might go to local away games like Colchester and our dear friends at Gillingham, I am unlikely to go to Barnsley or Oldham. I suspect the away following will decline substantially, unless there are a few signings in the summer. All this will affect the atmosphere, and probably the team's ability to get promoted again. In summary, a major setback, but probably not a disaster.

As you rightly say IF we had a good promotion run. without that the crowds would probably drop lower than 6,000 judging by the number of people who say they cannot afford to renew their season tickets if the price goes up and also taking into account the average away support in Div 1. Would we need to exploit the kids for a quid route to fill the ground.

I would love to have a season ticket, but I don't think I cannot afford it.

I'm going to start working soon, specifically saving up for tickets because we know attendances will drop, and I want to keep going to games to keep it up.

Maybe we would, maybe we wouldn't - but in either case, we would cope.

The irony of having Withdean is that as it offered us so little benefit as we rose from tier 4 to tier 2, so it punishes us less when we drop a league.

Anyway, have more faith in your fellow Brighton fans, BG. Maybe they are more loyal than an arch-pessimist like you thinks.

It is acknowledged by most people that we have a hard core support of about 5, possibly 6,000 who would come and watch BHA irrespective of the division, opponents or current form. We also have 20,000 who will tell you ' I am a Brighton supporter' but I cant get a ticket for the home games because of the crowd limits at Withdean how many of those 20,000 would suddenly start coming to Withdean unless we are winning every week.

from a football point of vieu it proberly would not matter i'm sure most brighton fans will go and watch brighton what ever team they are playing as i would do with palace.but on the cash flow side losing the large away crowds at falmer may hurt.

YES IT IS. Less money for the club, TV rights, gate receipts etc. What planet are you on?

Why gate receipts? People stay away when the team is on a losing streak but being near the top of a division attracts crowds.

the problem will be getting people to pay top dollarto watch what will be the 3rd tier of the english football pyramid in an uncoovered stand.

No doubt season tickets will be sold in february whilst we still battle for championship statut but id we go down and do not challenge for promotion it could be a financial diaster - £23.50 to get wet and see Tranmere etc will not pull in the casual supporter

The same planet as exactly 50% of the people who have voted in this poll.
