Is It Ok To Be A Nimby?

Attended a meeting at local school tonight to voice opposition to a church that wants to move into our area. They want to build a "sanctuary" that will take 4000 people , a load of other buildings and a retail development to fund it. I live in a nice quiet area and our single carriageway road just couldn't cope with the traffic. Disappointing that the church members couldn't come up with anything other than to accuse us of racism in opposing their plans.
Did make me wonder though if this makes me the landlord of The Swan against the forces of good (Albion fans for Falmer)?

Different scenario altogether though and hopefully a different result.

So that's where we went wrong, should have just called all the Falmer Nimby's RACISTS. That would have sped things along, why didn't Perry think of that:angry:

I bet that Sanctuary gets built within 10 years:censored:

Hope you're wrong there! Just read an email from one of "our team" apologising for any offence caused by her remark about a fried chicken franchise which was seized upon by the church members as proof that we're all fully gowned up cross burners!

Only in the deep south!

Those crazy Americans.

There's so much room in the US, why don't they just find a place with better access etc?

Thats bad news, and hopefully you get the right result !!!

On a seperate issue, is it a good investment to buy a holiday home in Florida at the moment ?

My parents own one - if you are hoping to make a bit of money by renting to holiday makers, than you are probably a bit too late. The market for vacation rentals is pretty much saturated. If you want one just to be a holdiday home for yourself - I am afraid I am not sure on that subject.

On the original topic - that must be awful. Good luck in getting your way Billy Mays.

i think if something really SHIT that will effect your life in a large way is planned then i think you have every right to FIGHT

however, in the case of falmer, most of the villagers were just ill-informed and used stereotypes of football fans to 'help' their cause

I've been a NIMBY before. Just as long as you use facts and valid arguement then there should be no shame in being one. I opposed the P&P at Patcham - the idea was totally impractical and driven by political dogma rather than any evidence would provide any benefits. I also didn't agree with the plans for the King Alfred - out of keeping and all based around profits for the developer - just building a bloody sports centre for f**ks sake.

as you argued in your first sentance, it depends on your point of view.
