Oatway, if I remember rightly, came back to pre-season training early last year and got himself into great shape and played really well at the start of the season.

This year he has really worked on his fitness and is fitter than ever. He's got a bit more expirience on his side. He's also our only option!

IMHO opinion our most promising midfield would be:

Jarrett Carpenter Reid (Rodger if fit!) Harding

But on Saturday I would like to see Oatway in there alongside Reid and either Harding or Jones out wide

jonah, hart and Nicolas if we sign him-

no he is not our only option

Jarrett is a winger and is not match fit. He'll be on the bench.

Reid played last night and has just returned from a thigh strain? which would suggest he won't play.

Darren Currie and Alexis Nicolas are not yet Brighton players.

I think Hart is struggling with fitness a little which could see him replaced by Hinsh.

Jones is assured of a sarting place.

Harding on the right????
sorry but no he is not even a midfielder let alone a right winger

Harding on the wide left ... he was played there under Coppell before he was made into a wing back

f*** ME. When are you going to stop banging your Charlie Oatway drum? He's SHITE, end of. Yes he works his arse off every game, but then so would I. Wouldn't make me any good! Last time around Oatway was shown up big time, and he hardly set a very poor Division Two alight last season. If he is any more than a 'last ten minutes to grind out a result' player this season once Chippy's back I will be very surprised/annoyed.

Seeing as we're all putting forward our midfield line-ups for this Saturday, I will go for:

Hart/Currie Oatway (ONLY because Carpenter's injured) Reid Jarrett

Strongest midfield is probably Hart, Carpenter, Rodger, Jones I think.

Oatway and Jones will play. Reid on the bench with Jarrett I think.

Alright calm down! All I said was that he's fit and has some expirience. I hardly said he's the next Roy Keane!

Currie, Reid, Jarrett won't start. They're not fit enough.

He did. And he was APPAULING.

Slightly over the top. He hasn't had many games in that position. He set up Knight in the Leicester friendly from that position though and everyone was loving him.

I agree that would be our best midfield with Chippy fitting in there when fit, probably in place of Hart or Reid, Reid could play on the right.

In regards to Oatway and Lee, it's bad enough having Oatway in the team passing to opposition players all the time, fair enough he wins tackles but then 9 times out of 10 gives the ball away, i really don't think we can afford to have Lee in the same side as Oatway also passing the ball to opposition players, it'll be like starting with 9 v 11.

He played 3 or 4 games and looked out of his depth in midfield. When came back into the side as a left back he did well, however I did think towards the end of the season he was struggling, but McGhee was not going to change a winning side. Would not be surprised to see Mayo oust him at some point this season.

I remember in the not too distant past Lee playing on the first day of the season agianst us. Scored a cracking goal to clinch it for Southend.

What a dissapointment that day was!!

Agree with that, maybe staring Harding in midfield would give Mayo an early chance?

Not having seen any friendlies I'm not in a strong position to judge fitness or the ability of the trialists. It's a shame that we don't have an obvious first choice available to us in midfield at any position for the start of the season!

If you mean at full back...he will be skinned. Brooker and that American Reading have just signed will skip straight past him

Wouldn't it be nice if David Lee grabbed the winner on Saturday! :jester:

Agree with UBucks assesment of Harding.

Lee, Oatway, Harding, Jones in midfield? Could happen.

True although I can see us being very defensive. They'd have to beat Jones and then Mayo. Which isn't quite so easy.

We are going to need pace in the fullback positions throughout the season, I remember too clearly Kerry and Watto's lack of pace being the main reason teams opened us up in the early part of our last 1st div season and Kerry looks even heavier and slower now .

Agree. Mayo reckons he's fitter than ever in the Argus pullout (if I recall correctly).

As you say though, that was the early part of our last 1st div season. Mayo was 2nd in player of the season wasn't he? Once we adapted he did alright.
