After more than 1800 murders, 30 years of violence all with the aim of achieving a united Ireland the IRA have finally ended 'operations'. They failed. There is no United Ireland. What a waste of life.

Good news lets hope that other terrorist operations around the world, like ETA, Loyalist Extremeists, Chechen Rebels, and Al Queda, follow suit soon.:clap2:

That's a short sighted view of things. Well done!

And then everyone in Iraq will throw down their guns and play football in the streets!

Chechen rebels are fighting against years of terrible oppression and murder by the Russians, there was a programe the other night on the troubles there and it is nothing short of a hell hole.

There have been Hundreds of thousands of dead civillians (inc children) due to the Russian occupation, to even compare it with Ireland and the IRA is quite frankly insulting and uneducated.

I don't apporove for one minute what the IRA has done, but I can understand their position. They felt they had been invaded and were fighting a 'guerilla war'. The only real weapon they had at their disposal was terror. How could they fight the might of the British army any other way?

If you'd asked me 10 years ago, I would have called them scum, but as I've got older (and hopefully wiser), I can see it from their point of view. The protestants were in all of the positions of power, and the catholicas were disciminated against. It wasn't fair.

I hope that the manner of the resolution of this conflict is understood in trying to resovle other issues around the world.

We should acknowledge the work done by Major, Blair, Clinton, Ahern, Adams etc for the mind-set change and be grateful for the positive outcome at long-last.

Yeah I must admit that as I have got older I too have seen it from their point of view. Like, its completely understandable, even enlightening to blow people up in the street and shoot men in front of their children etc..........

I think you need to do some history and not tarnish the whole of the IRA with the same brush the RIRA was mostly responsbile for the bombings etc. my grandfather from corkl was a member of the ira but wouldnt have agreed with the terrorism.
