I was thinking of getting an IPOD for my birthday ( october)

I am looking at a 4GB Mini ( in pink LOL) - £130

Anyone any advice

I dont see the point in a 20Gb one as I would only ever listen to a few albums anyway

I got a Napa 1 GB which is nice, except it needed reformatting so I lost all my downloads

Suggest bigger than 1 GB as people like you and me DTG appreciate real music like Pink Floyd etc which are 7 minute tracks.

Don't know enough about the Ipod, but got a Creative Zen Micro 5Gb from Amaxon for £133 and am well impressed. More than enough capacity for my CD collection, and easy to rip tracks.

Superb invention, well worth the outlay.

Only query I would have is over the claim that you get 12 hours out of the rechargeable battery!

I have an ipod mini and been very happy with it for the last two years. 4 Gb is plenty enough space as long as you don't want your whole music collection on it and notihng has ever gone wrong with mine at all.

Don't buy an Ipod they are overrated crap, I've had 2 new ones replaced by Apple since January because it just decided to stop working. Get an MP3 player that plays windows media 9 files, the Itunes software on a PC is crap as well, its slow and takes up all your system resources. Ipod will be old technology by next year.

Just transferred all my Floyd tracks to my iPod - was a lifesaver on a 9 hour flight with the only film option being a shit comedy about an iceskater!

I've got an RCA Lyra (Thompson in this country) that I got in the US - cost $65. It's expandable with SD/MMC Memory cards, and I currently have a 1GB card in mine $40 in the US again, giving it 1.5GB total. Easy to use, reliable, runs off one AAA battery and lasts literally for months at a time (gets used on the bike, 10 hours a week minimum)! Quick downloads via USB, synchs from Media Player nicely as well. Son has a 1.5GB Zen, nice to use as well - rechargeable battery on that gets recharged once a fortnight and it's always welded to his head.

The Ipods are nice, but I think you are buying the name at the moment. Guy who works with me has a new Archos, plays movies, etc, incredible piece of kit, about the size of two/three cigarette packets!

Trust me on this. The new Sony NW-HD3 it holds 20 G of music and has 40 hours battery life, it is pretty much the size of a credit card. Its by far the best one out.

oh yea £199, but worth paying the extra £50 for 5 times the space and double the battery time. It looks nicer too. Ive waited for an mp3 players for years, and this was the one that made me make my purchase. This is a forum on it and they rave about it.

The sound can be unlocked to be much louder too, as all EU mp3 players must have a restriction.

The HD3 is old and discontinued - the NW-HD5 is the current model - £179 from Amazon.

Oh and I've got a 40GB iPod. Lovely it is. Well, it was. Right up until I somehow smashed the screen when it was in my bag. Haven't done anything with it since, as it's about £120 to get it repaired and I'm considering whether I should just buy something else.
