Ipod Touch help needed!

Hi,
I have an ipod touch first gen and I'm trying to get the OS 3.0 software on it as you need this to get any of the recent apps for it. However it is not synced to my current pc and I've tried and failed to restore the library so is it possible to download the software via my ipod or on my current pc without losing my library?

Just change the sync settings from auto to manual. That way it won't automatically switch songs from your PC to your iPod and vice versa

Thanks I think I figured out how to not lose my songs but do you know where I can get the software from e.g. what to search in iTunes store?

It should do it automatically when you connect it up, saying there's a firmware upgrade available
