I have a song on my iphone downloaded from itunes.

can it be turned into a ringtone?

Dumb question......please help!

It can, but its tricky. I don't fully understand how to yet. Download a ringtone app. Sync your phone to iTunes. Create an AAC version of it. When you sync again it should appear in the ringtone folder on the phone. That's the simple explanation. With the ringtone app I downloaded it had a YouTube video showing how to do it. Here it is...

Ive only done it once. Didnt realise it was so complicated. Not like on android and just use any old mp3!!!

probably but dont do it. just have one of the standard ringtones and be done with it because then you wont look like a 15 year old school girl everytime your phone rings.

Thanks - it's for my 9 year-old niece who is recovering at home after her first treatment session for leukemia. I know you didn't know but sometimes it may be better not to say something flippant just in case it hits a nerve. And it did. Sorry to be rude but I was only asking for help and I dont think I did in a stupid or attention-seeking fashion.

Step 1

Click "Start," "Programs" and then "iTunes."


Step 2

Right-click the song you wish to convert to an iPhone ring tone and select "Get info."


Step 3

Click the "Options" tab.


Step 4

Set the "Start Time" and "End Time" values to reflect the portion of the song you want to use as a ring tone. Then, click "OK." Ring tones for the iPhone can be a maximum of 40 seconds long.


Step 5

Right-click the song and select "Convert Selection to AAC." This will create a new song that is displayed in your iTunes library.


Step 6

Right-click the new song in your iTunes library. Select "Delete" and then click "Keep Files" when prompted.


Step 7

Click "Start" and "My Documents." Navigate to the "Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" folder.


Step 8

Open the folder containing the song you just converted to the AAC format. The folders are organized by artist.


Step 9

Right-click the "M4A" file created during the iTunes conversion process and then click "Rename."


Step 10

Change the file extension from "M4A" to "M4R" and press "Enter."


Step 11

Double-click the M4R file to open it in iTunes and add it to your list of available ring tones. The file will be transferred to your iPhone the next time you sync.
