You've missed Gomez from the squad.

Presumably McGill is not in the squad for Saturday, so 2 would have to drop out to allow for Pervis and Solly to return.

Therefore, assuming no new injuries, I reckon if fit, Pervis will go on the bench replacing Gruda(?) as we had an imbalance in defensive options last week, and Solly won't make it at the moment.

On the other hand, if Solly is closer to starting than Pervis, he might go on the bench, as he can cover both full back and wing positions.

Time for us to see how we do with the majority of our squad actually available now, looking forward to seeing the team put a good run of form together and every faith that they will

Any surprise that the bottom three in the injury table are doing so well this season, especially Forest?

To have over 3x the amount of their injuries is ridiculous really and shows how unlucky the team have been this season

The stats are very clear. We are the ONLY team to have even above average injuries and also be having a good season in the league. The only competitor teams (i.e. not Liverpool) having comparable /better campaigns than ourselves are the 4 least injured...

Injuries obviously play a part but I didn't think this much. I wonder if it is a consistent relationship across seasons? e.g. when Leicester had their season presumably they were remarkably injury free?

It helps obviously.

But these teams have also decided to go in a direction of "today is what matters". They (especially Wolves & Fulham) have a lot of full-grown players in the peak of their career. They don't get injured as much as younger or older players, which also means these teams have smaller squads... and fewer players overall are to some extent going to result in fewer injuries.

I hope we will be further down in that table next season but the way we play and construct our squads, I think we'll have more than average injury issues. Unless some magic solution is found, I suppose the ~28 player squads from the last two seasons is going to be the new norm.

An interesting observation.

I noticed that when we played Fulham, all their players seemed to be 25-28 years old which as you describe, is the traditional ‘peak career’ age. It’s almost as if it’s by design!

Fulham have the second oldest after West Ham (although us loaning in Evan in January might have tipped the balance).

But the players we have who you would say are reasonably near the peak of their career, March, Kadiolglu, Estupinan, Wieffer, Igor .... and I don't think you'd describe O'Riley as a young player any more, Moder when he was here, have been injured most of the season.

It might just be JPVH, Mitoma and latterly Lamptey, who are roughly mid career who have been vaguely able to stay fit.

I'm not buying the "today is what matters" argument

When you see those numbers, it really reinforces that - if it’s financially viable - we should do our utmost to try and keep this squad together for an even bigger push next year.

Sell a few of the fringe players where we’re stacked (Enciso/Buononatte?) and use those funds towards a couple of defenders.

Feels like it could be similar to the end of 21-22 when it became apparent we had a very good team and kept most of the side together, and those who were sold in the summer (Cucarella and Bissouma), were replaced with a ‘first XI ready’ signing (Estupinan) or had replacements in the squad with more talent/higher ceilings ready to step up (Caicedo/Macallister).

It's a factor no doubt. @Han Solo is spot on to say that for Fulham and Forest it's all about today. Well their squad is all about now too. Which is why I'd still rather have our squad and set-up than theirs.
Many things are magical about football, but seeing talented young players develop in front of your eyes is right up there.

In my attempt to fairly spread the criticism, I just want to say that all these lads can go f*** themselves. I'm going to excuse James Milner because he is 83 years old, for the rest of the lot its time to wipe them tears, put some f***ing band-aid on their sore knees and feet and GO TO WORK.

If any of this lot is seen with a beer or a wife or a dog or something - rip up their contracts and sue the shit out of them. They better live like monks until they're willing and able to help the lads fighting like (shite) animals out there.

What’s our current total? Igor, Kadioglu, Veltman, Mitoma, Giorginio, Webster, Steele, Milner, Lamptey?
