Poster of Arctic Monkeys in front of the Boardwalk pub, first place they ever played, Alex Turner used to work in the bar there, was inspiration for the song Fake Tales of San Francisco.

I played there last year with my band on tour, was the roughest gig ever in most senses.

Thought you'd want to know. But you don't.

On that note, who else on here is in a band? Links etc?

No links, no pack drill though.

Good bounce.

And I have to admit, a truly stunning thread. Wow. How naive. Oh well.

I've never got the AM appeal, I liked HLGOTDF but the rest of their career to date seems to be living off it. Quite possibly the most over-rated band since the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Chili Peppers always had a shit singer and 3 phenomenal musicians. All about whether you could see past the shit singer or not. I was able to for quite a few years.

Nah, I never got past the shit songs. There were a few which were catchy but the rest were just a reworking of them. I liked Flea in Point Break though.

And more importantly in The Big Lebowski:

"Give us the moooney Lebewski or we fucks you up!"

Disagree. Alex Turner is a very talented young man. Personally, I prefer his own stuff (Submarine soundtrack) and the Last Shadow Puppets spin-off, to the actual AM stuff, but together it is an impressive body of work, for a young songwriter / lyricist.

I love that they sing about things in young northern working class life, and are proud to sound like they come from Sheffield, rather than L.A.

More power to Alex Turner, I say.

Good call about his extra-curricular stuff. As for the Monkeys. I think they have got better with age. I never liked the first album as I thought it sounded quite amateur...at times it sounded like nursery rhythms set to crap guitars.

As an aside, I did not think anyone else other than me purchased the NME. I must admit it is pretty ropey journalism these days and I have lost track of the amount of times they peddled The Godfather of **** to their next batch of young new readers. In the last month they have had The Godfathers of Punk (Ramones) and Godfather of Glam (Bowie) articles full of the usual NME superlatives. I buy it out of habit and for new bands and for gig lists.

I started this thread 4 years ago. I'm not certain I've bought NME since then.

Albumen - Give Favourite Worst Nightmare a go. It's far far better than the first album.
