So you think earning £145k a year should entitle you to a council house ??

I'd suggest those earning below about £20k a year should be entitled.

Why should Council Housing be a ghetto for the poor ? I am all in favour of prioritising those in most need but I fail to see why it should not be available for all who want it.

If us members of the RMT didn't like the way he does his job he can be booted out, that's democracy. The fact that we don't says something and I wonder how many of the posh boys commenting on here believe in such democratic things ?

This.

At least Crowe hasn't put a brass front door knocker on his council house and then voted Tory like all those gimps did in the 80's.

You believe he got his council house while on £145,000 a year?

A council can't move someone out just because their salary has gone up. Most would choose to - he has chosen not to. Though it's evident you're saying telling him how he should live his life and that he should, principally because market forces dictate that he should.

Maybe he rents at the moment, but it would be interesting to read replies if he bought it under 'right to buy' ?

shirley in order to prioritise, it should only be available to those who "want" once those that "need" have been housed?

My old granny had 'the right to buy' her three bedroom council flat (with a garden) in London's docklands a few years before the revolution in the housing market that turned her neighbourhood into a fashionable location for bankers with a fortune to spend on housing close to the workplace. "Who wants the burden of home ownership?" was her thinking at the time.

"What the hell happened to my inheritance?" might be my thinking, if it wasn't for the fact that I admire her sticking to her principles that housing is for living in, not getting rich with.

Why should Mr Crowe be forced out and be subject to rip off rents on properties provided by buy to let landlords, some of whom now have estates larger than local councils.

How can home ownership be a burden when it can be achieved at a fraction of the market price?

This. I also think a lot of people view Crow with envy. He has always stood by his members and always done very well for them. I don't agree with all of his views (mainly his thoughts on the EU) but I wish he represented me and I'm sure a lot of his detractors do as well.

Deary me. He might be and probably is a nob, but why is he not allowed on holiday? Because he is a socialist?

:lolol:
He is allowed a holiday...which is more than some of his members can afford...but to rub it in he has the audacity to say that the rich (with him on £145,00O a year with perks of expenses and living in a council house smacks of hypocrisy of the highest level...) but that's champagne socialism for you...

Wow, there's some properly mental comments on this thread!

Should social housing be means tested in order to keep more properties available for those who really need it? I'd say there's a reasonable debate to be had there and can see perfectly valid arguments both for and against.

Luckily for this binfest enough people decided to go all tabloid and shout about RIPPING the poor unfortunate company DIRECTORS out of their HOMES and FORCING the poor onto the TRAINS into the GHETTO while the evil landlords STEAL money from everyone else which FEEDS the green eyed MONSTER in our HEARTS!

There is a perfectly sensible and legitimate argument to be had here but Beach Hut being a total prick does nothing to champion his cause.

Agreed :lolol:

Yawn yawn. Please tell me what modern socialism has to do with being less well off. If anything it's about everyone being better off.

They're not losing out to a trade unionist, they're losing out to a system that sold off the nations housing stock.
Bob crow believes in social housing so why should He be dragged from his home just because He's done we'll for himself?
Which of course many Labour supporters rushed to buy and then sold on for a profit...(not saying Tories didn't buy either, but at least they went with their beliefs) which is more than can be said for those who preach one thing and practice another...the left always ask...what's in it for me ?....Country first...then the populace will prosper...
