People should pay road tax, as the van says... "stay legal"

But don't park on a bus stop to go shopping!

This is just a small example of how all large/powerful organisations eventually disappear up their own bottoms in puffs of self-importance. Police, governments, banks, stores, large numbers of public sector workers, the more power they have the greater their sense of self-entitlement. This week I've been at the end of wankerish behaviour by Barclays Bank and HMRC. It's not a left-right thing; no one's immune. Not sure how you stop it.

Yes outside the coop on longridge. He came out of olive garden with a bag. I went and said hello. He said the stay legal referred to tax, not parking.

That's what you get when you hand over the DVLA enforcement to a certain giant outsourcer !

He's also breaking the parking rules of the Highway Code (specifically rule 239) by parking against the flow of traffic, something every fecker seems to do these days. In other countries, it's immediate (and well-deserved IMO) points on your licence and / or hefty instant fine. It's the cause of a surprising number of avoidable crashes.

You MUST NOT stop or park on:
•the carriageway or the hard shoulder of a motorway except in an emergency (see Rule 270)
•a pedestrian crossing, including the area marked by the zig-zag lines (see Rule 191)
•a clearway (see 'Traffic signs')
•taxi bays as indicated by upright signs and markings
•an urban clearway within its hours of operation, even when a broken white line is on your side of the road, except to pick up or set down passengers (see 'Traffic signs')
•a road marked with double white lines, except to pick up or set down passengers
•a tram or cycle lane during its period of operation
•a cycle track
•red lines, in the case of specially designated ‘red routes’, unless otherwise indicated by signs

Any vehicle may enter a bus lane to stop, load or unload where this is not prohibited (see Rule 141).

You MUST NOT park in parking spaces reserved for specific users, such as Blue Badge holders, residents or motorcycles, unless entitled to do so.

By the seaside in West Somerset
a few years ago I was stopped by police for speeding round a large traffic island - they had a van parked on no parking hatched markings on one side and motorcycles similarly parked on the other side. I pointed out that all of their vehicles were parked illegally and I would challenge a ticket in court rather than accept a penalty ticket and fine. Result? Abuse and the threat of arrest if I didn't stop "being lippy" but no ticket and they had moved on when I returned the same way shortly afterward
