If you're driving from the bypass to the Sussex University car park ...

Got something to say or just want fewer pesky ads? Join us... 😊

... PLEASE leave the bypass at Hollingbury and drive down Coldean Lane to reach Lewes Road. There is no way to reach the Sussex University car park direct from the A27.

If you don't, you'll end up having to do a U-turn over the Falmer bridge and you'll get stuck in a long, long queue of traffic.

You'll also cause a delay to everyone travelling to the game on a bus or coach and to everyone wanting to get to Bennetts Field.

I presume you mean if you are approaching from the west? I am not very familiar with the roads in that part of town, so sorry if my comment is daft!

They sent out these directions with my ticket for the SSC game, but perhaps could have done with a few stewards/signs pointing the way too.

I am assuming they will send out similar with my Car Parking season ticket... if/when it arrives!

This advice is critical. As you say they did say this in a letter with the parking ticket for SSC but I was still slightly amazed that there were no signs at the Coldean turning. I guess it's tricky because they don't want everyone turning up there thinking they can park. But a sign saying "pre-booked parking" or something would do the job?

Will there be stewards at Stanmer Park stopping people parking there?!

Yes, directions in letter as given by LB above and including a ban on the other entrance to the Uni (which would have been the easiest for those from the East to use).

There weren't for the SSC games, because we turned in there by mistake!

If I didn't have a parking voucher, Stanmer Park would be my first port of call.

Turn up at 12, probably won't be stopped, have a nice picnic in the sun and stroll across for the football. Easy. Even if there is a steward there they can't stop you if you're stopping to have a picnic! Could be a very packed Stanmer Park by 1.

Not daft at all and you're right. Coming from the east, you go past the ground, come off on the A270 Brighton turn, turn right under the new flyover and follow the signs.

Does this also apply to university staff with a parking permit that they use for work? Will they be able to use their normal parking spaces, and use the same entry at the roundabout at Falmer, on matchdays? Probably a question for the university rather than this board but if anyone knows the answer that would be very helpful.

So coming from Burgess Hill, over the beacon, down Coldean Lane, left into Lewes Road but where then? Doesnt that just join the A27 slightly east of the old entrance to the uni which means I'd need to go up the slip road and turn left at the top to get into the uni?

I'm pretty sure the car parks for football fans will be exclusively for football fans, university people will have to relocate to other car parks by certain times on match days. (Sorry, I don't know the specific times, but they are available on the university website, I believe).

There are traffic lights where you turn toward stanmer park and follow that road round and it brings you into the university beside the gardner arts centre/university leisure centre

its easy once you've seen it, but if you normally use the main bit of road just to merge onto the A27 you could miss it. Anyway, drive along the turnoff, you'll pass stanmer park entrance, keep going and you come into the uni grounds.

There may well be signs by matchday.

My parking tickets arrived this morning along with a letter explaining what LB said, but still a nice reminder

I'm not back home until Friday so have not seen mine yet. Do you also have to book your place and if so is there a deadline? There is supposed to be a Stadium parking page on the website but I can't find it.

if you've paid for parking tickets £360/£180 then you don't have to book in advance, you're already "pre-booked." you have a stack of tickets, one for each match (match specific)

If you haven't bought already, as far as I know, you cannot buy for just one match.
