The forgotten G.

Gangstarr
Marvin Gaye
Bebel Gilberto
Goldie Looking Chain
Gorrilaz
Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
Grand Puba
Grateful Dead
Al Green
Buddy Guy

The only reason I’d choose G is for Genesis (though using surname sorting, I’d get the bonus of Peter Gabriel), but they lose out to S because I then get Supertramp, Steely Dan and Santana.

The problem with this being for eternity is that their listenable output amounts to one album. As great as it is, even I would get bored eventually. Whereas you take my "P" headliners of Prince and Primal Scream and it's a treasure trove. Ditto for Stevie Wonder though on the S front. The Roses don't swing it for the S list for me because Pavement or Public Enemy do the same sort of job for P.

I still can't decide.

Damn.

This begs the further question: How long would you need to be on the island before you decided to have a listen to The Second Coming??:lolol::lolol:

D gets it for me, mainly by reason of Depeche Mode and Dave Gahan

+ Simply Red can do one

This with bells on.

A former colleague used to be in The Frantic Elevators with Mick Hucknall and by all accounts he was totally up his own arse even before he became famous. Having said that he was batting way above his average in terms of the ladees even then.

If I went for C would Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young give me all four of them?

But he did have a sublime voice! I’d have thought ‘Money’s Too Tight To Mention’ would be right up your street!

Didn't expect to see Monochrome Set or Mission on anyone's lists, good choices - Morrissey too, I know he can come across as a tit at times, but he has been responsible for some great songs!

Impossible but fun task - most of us will have favourite artists that cross far too many letters - I’d make a case for E as well though - my favourites are near the top but it’s pretty wide-ranging

Elvis Costello
Emmylou Harris
Eagles
Elton John
Earth Wind and Fire
Everly Brothers
Elvis Presley
Eurythmics
Eva Cassidy
Eminem
Eric.......Clapton, Church, Carmen, Wreckless???
Edward Elgar

A case can be made for most letters and B is certainly very strong - Billy Bragg, BruceSpringsteen, Beatles etc as is S - no mention for Stevie Wonder yet?. Some letters have it much tougher - i would have liked Otis Redding and UB40 but couldn’t find as many.

If performing together, yes. As covered in rules.

If solo artist, then no.

It's weird using the first name of someone rather than the surname - that's not how most filing systems work but it would have to be J for me

Johan Sebastian Bach
John Tavener/Taverner
Josquin Des Prez
John Adams
Joseph Haydn
Jean-Baptiste Lully
Jean-Philippe Rameau
Jacob Obrecht
Jules Massenet
John Dowland
John Cage
and maybe I could get to like Johannes Brahms and Jean Sibelius, both of whom leave me cold right now

That lot will keep me occupied for days (JSB must have a week of music alone) and when I want a break from classical

John Coltrane
John Cale
Josef K
Jesus and Mary Chain

Note no Coldplay.

You get Chet Atkins with 'C'. You don't get John Coltrane.
