I have a st, so I am obliged to go and that is the way I see it at the moment, even though I have paid for the tickets, I think I will pick and chose the games I go to after this week.

DTG's post is BY FAR the single most telling stat IMHO. TOP Albion fans are now only going cos they have enough disposable income to pre-pay for the STH and pick and choose when they go (and hopefully give away for nowt the tickets they choose not to use). That's not sustainable into next season. And the board would do well to take note. STH numbers will be WELL down.

Entertainment has never been the reason for me paying to watch Brighton. It is loyalty pure and simple. Entertainment, when it happens is a bonus. When I get a nipper I'll make sure he / she grows up with same philosophy. BRIGHTON 'TIL I DIE!

I admire your loyalty it cant be faulted but i'm at the stage now where I want some value & entertainment for my money, I want to walk away from a football match feeling good ( whether we've won or lost ) where as this season I've walked away depressed and feeling like I've wasted my money.

I normally go to every game at home even friendlies and have done for many years but am now begining to think about it.

Havent been to 1 away game yet this season and have no plans to give other clubs my money unless of course we get to the point of a glory tie, but then I am a bad fan.

Thank you for your considered comment, add to the price of a ticket at least a half a tank of fuel to make the 300 mile round trip from home to Withdean and you have a very expensive day out...with the credit crunch biting hard there are priorities far higher than watching the Albion play (such as putting food on my plate and keeping a roof over my head), regardless of the quality of football on offer, that said I still go to most away games that are within 100 miles of home.
Badfan :jester:

I KNEW someone would say that though, even though the thread is clearly aimed at people who have stopped going because of on field performances.

Yes I am a badfan, one who has been watching the Albion since 1982, I once saw ten consecutive defeats and it never once occurred to me not to keep going...it is just at the moment there are more pressing concerns!

I live in Brighton and thankfully I can afford a season ticket so I'll still go BUT I do know other people who are a little more choosy about games home and away now. It is based on a combination of the rubbish being served up, the cost, inconvenience of getting to Brighton and the poor facilities.

To be ABSOLUTELY honest though, there's only so much disposable income to go around. People might use 'on field performances' as justification for not going, but truth be told when it comes to purse-string-tightening, surely twenty five quid a throw a fortnight to watch the Albion - or any football team - has to be one of the first things to go, irrespective of how they might be playing at the time.

Consumers are not always 'rational' decision-makers. Consider the betting industry as an example. You may well be right about this, but I reckon a good chunk of the hardcore who still go to Withdean will be those who, theoretically, can least afford to do so.

Don't worry boys, in five years time when BHA are "doing a Hull" in the top flight, you'll be able to look down your noses at all the plastic fans filling Falmer and say "I was there when we were REALLY f***ing shit."

Not so sure about that. I missed the Hereford game last week because I couldn't quite afford it. However, if we had been playing much better football and were likely to have won, I would have tried a lot harder to make sure I could have afforded it.

It's a combination of financial circumstances AND how the team are playing. I am not going to fork out £25 when I'm pretty skint to sit at Withdean watching a pile of shite, whereas I would probably find a way of finding £25 to sit at Withdean and watch an excellent game of football.
