Worthing
about Virgo returning, does it excite you or are you not overly bothered.

Myself.........it doesn't float my boat that much to be honest.

What about you ?

Would be a decent signing as cover and utility. Not sure if he would walk into the first team but it would need to be flanked by other QUALITY signings. If we went into the coming season having signed Hawkins, McLeod and Virgo I wouldnt be too excited.

As someone else mentioned on an old thread...if Virgo had never played for us NSC members would be creaming themselves about the Albion possibly signing a young ex Celtic player

Yes I'd love to see him back here but for some reason there are plenty who seem to think he's not good enough for us now

Probably those who think Murray is a lazy sod who deserves some abuse from the stands which they gladly deliver every game

How soon is now?
We need a left back, not another centre back/utility player, just because he has a special place in Albion history. If he was "a young ex Celtic player" with no Brighton history we'd all expect to miss out with him going to Forest, as has been mooted before anyway

I'd rather wait to see who our starting 11 are against Crewe before I decide whether to be excited about next season or not.

Call me naive, but EVERY signing excites me. My BLIND OPTIMISM is such that I convince myself that EVERY player we sign, just MIGHT turn out to be the next Wardy or Zamora, despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

Nearly 30 years of disappointing signings have still not destroyed that blind faith, and I hope this is always the case

In the highly unlikely event that he is going to be our only other signing this summer I'd agree with you but assuming we do sign others having a versatile experienced competitive player is only going to benefit us imo.

nothing wrong with strength in depth.. if we want to get promotion this year, we'll need a bigger squad than last year. can't see why anyone would complain about us bringing in a quality player, even if he will sit on the bench. he can play all over the place and i'd rather see him step in, than people like mayo and loft like last season :glare:

Oh My GOD!!!!!!!!! Does no one remember Virgo as being a quality defender? If he signs for us, he will be our regular centre back with Elphick.

I just don't understand the lukewarm reception... Virgo is an Albion legend and will play ahead of Lynch, IMHO...

Haven't seen him play since he left us so don't feel able to comment; however, it doesn't seem that his career really progressed at Celtic/Coventry/Colchester. Frankly, I don't see anything to get excited about per se in a former player returning to the club; a bit like my feelings on Adams' appointment.
I'm with Bulldog really, I'll be interested to see how we line up at Crewe but I think it'll be a couple of months before we know how the season's likely to go.

The lukewarm reaction is due to the fact that there has been no real signs of progression yet. We have signed 2 seasoned professionals that add depth to the squad and perhaps a third on the way.

We need EXCITING signings to balance them and to give everyone a bit of a boost and an expectation of exciting football as well as returning to the glory days of Fortress Withdean.

OK... so some weren't even excited about the return of Adams, who has far greater chance of success than Wendy ever will as a manager... now I understand... pessimists one and all...

A couple of battle hardened season pro's is just what our young squad needed.
Im hoping for 3 more thankyou very much.

Im not saying dont sign them but we havent had a truly creative midfielder for ages! Coxy is great when he's on form-hopefully McLeod will be good on the left. I would like 2 more midfielders-a strong tough tackling Oatway style character and someone else with a bit of vision, bit of class and a bit of creativity. That WOULD balance out the signings of the seasoned pro's we have signed.

He's 25 yrs old. Hardly a young player!!! From my recollection, his legendary status comes from his willingness to play up front and the last minute Swindon goal.

i think Virgo is a legend, but you do have to wonder why his career has gone in the direction it has. as quality as he was before, it was his flexibility and goal scoring in a side with no consistant strike force that gave him legend status, we arent looking for that now, we have a utility defender and two great strikers and the midfield should be the priority. and people dont want to tarnish their memories of him if it goes pear shaped.

now.... heres a thought, if he does come in and is targeted to fit into the midfield, that would be a interesting twist. im sure he played midfield, how well did he perform there, does he have the range of passing to become an outright midfielder ('cause we know he can tackle and support strikers)
