OK, so in 1997 we didn't escape relegation and actually folded. What would you do, I say, what would you do. I know from experience that if I can't get to the Albion I try to watch a game wherever I am. But would people have supported new teams? Gone non-league? Turned their backs on football?

For the record, I would have probably latched onto Eastbourne Borough/Langney Sports success.

And you?

(it is taken as read that evryone would kill Archer and Bellotti.)

Couldn't even think about it........

StaffsGull Quote

The one thing that men really try to stay monogomous to is their football team, and couldn't contemplate being unfaithful, even if the team suffered an untimely demise, it would never feel right. There may be many attractive options out there, but love is blind, and to all supporters their team is a Rachael Stevens or Kylie Minogue, where as all the other teams are Judy Finnigan at best, with certain ones being in the Anne Widdicombe mould, and lets face it, it would need serious corrective eye surgery, or a pervert of the highest extreme to take the other options seriously.

Supported the reformed Brighton and Hove Albion. Assuming we had to start in something like Rymans Div 2 we might be in the Conference by now. Probably playing at Withdean - but Falmer would be indeed, in the words of FG, a 'pipedream'.

I remember having this conversation with some mates on the way back from the Canvey Island game, and we just couldn't come up with anything at all. There was just no other club for any of us.

Personally, I think I would have remained an armchair fan for many years. Maybe drifted away from the game, or perhaps started following my local non-league team, Gravesend & Northfleet, but I doubt the passion or excitement would have ever returned. A part of me would have been dead ... forever.

THANK YOU STEVE GRITT !!!! And thank you Dick Knight.

I'd be down Eastbourne Borough with Albion Rob - probably with average gates of 1500 +, in the conference

good hotdogs, and a cheap bar for a swifty before the game, at half time and after

I guess I was probably one of those mates coming back from Canvey Island, Gritty. As you say, there really is no other option, either in an emotional or geographical sense. I live a stone throw away from Southwick FC, but I would only be going through the motions if I started turning up there week in, week out. It would merely be a tool to get me out of shopping of a Saturday.

I would probably drink heavily before, during and after each Southwick match (you can drink and watch from the social club windows). Soon I would become overweight and unattractive to the opposite sex. I would be locked in a downward spiral of self-loathing and dispair, until one day I would probably take my own life by jumping off the bridge in front of an oncoming train at Fishersgate Station, after a 0-1 home defeat to Horsham YMCA.

Thank god for Robbie Reinalt eh ?

I agree with StaffsGulls - great quote by the way!

Eventhough it wouldn't feel right hopefully AFC Brighton and Hove Albion would've been formed!?!

You were indeed, Easy10. I can remember the scene quite clearly as we all sat there over a fews beers in "The Three Blackbirds". The mood was just so sombre, I have never quite known us to all be so down. A day, and a pub visit that will stay with me forever. I often think back to it, to remind myselfjust how grateful I am that we are simply in existance, rather than concerning myself with the odd poor display.

Very tricky - can't think of any logically answer to this.

Thank heavens the club never folded.
