DO you think he would be as successful being as outspoken as he wa then and using the same style of management?

In my books a footballing legend for what he achieved!!

Yes. People say "How would be cope with the big-time awkward players like Viduka and Anelka?" - he would get rid of the players who resent being given a bollocking and get in those who would work for him. A bloody shame he never managed England - we probably would have won another World Cup.

Not sure that he would have got the required coaching badges, though. Surely he'd be disagreeing with everything they'd be trying to teach him!

Reckon he'd still be better than most of the current crop, though. And definitely the best Englishman amongst them.

Sussex, by the sea
a legend, and his record speaks for itself, f*** the FA, although he was wholey unreconstructed, you can't argue with his achievements at less than 'massive' clubs.

I agree with Repugnant toad, in charge of England and with the FA locked in the broom cupboard we could have won an International tournament under his guidance, and without any of the premadonnas' !

No. I think his style wouldn't work so well now. I'm also really pleased he never managed England as he would have been a disaster. He was at his best with kids and rejects, Leeds proved he couldn't work with established stars.

Most definately Beckham and crew would go home crying to mummy.
He would scare the sh*t out of them.
If he were England Manager we would have had a world cup again by now.

Wasn't trevor francis the first 1 million pound player? Surely he can't be described as a kid or a reject?
Well obviously not 100% of the players he came into contact with throughout hiis career were kids or rejects, no. I still stand by what I said though, he'd have been useless as England manager - especially if he hadn't had Peter Taylor with him.

Clough hated Leeds, why he went is a mystery. He lost the dressing room by calling them cheats on his first day. This doesn't however prove he couldn't work with established stars.

No.

The first ever £1 million signing was Diego Maradona.

Diego Maradona was transferred for £1 million after Trevor Francis surely? The Trevor Francis deal went through in 1979 - Maradona would have been seriously young then.

Trevor himself was pretty young I believe at the time - only about 21-22
