there's lots of talk lately of introducing new id cards in the uk. are they worth it do you think or not?

i think that one more space in your wallet is no price to pay if fraud and immigration can be tackled more effectively. afterall, if you've nothing to hide, where's the problem?

i think it's spain who already uses them and there doesn't seem to be too much of a problem over there from what i've heard.

Here we go again. I think it was about two months ago that it was concluded that there was not a problem (even if you weren't to carry a card everywhere you went), as long as you were white.

Herein lies the problem.

What it is going to be used for, and what it could be used for - that is what you should worry about.

I've been to enough countries that use ID cards to know that on no account do I ever want to be a citizen (or subject) in a country that has an ID card system.

Well as far as i gather pretty much all your details would be stored on these cards.

If it stops all these wankers flooding the country and taking the piss out of us tax payers i'd even gladly pay a set up fee to have one.

Good idea, but a problem if it gets nicked. Plus, I dont imagine these cards would be to hard to fake either.

I'm with you on this fatbadger. The Nazis where very keen on them and the old soviets and they liked to record all sorts of details. They wont stop illegal immigrants - they have found that its more effective to destroy their id before they enter the country anyway. People would only find a way of falsifying them anyway like NI numbers - over 20M extra ones currently in circulation. Perhaps these new card could also contain information to indicate you where a potential hooligan as the public wont be able to read them. I don't think that because they seem to work in a country where you have been on holiday is a good argument for them.

Nazis, the russians, labour?

Spot the odd one out! Im sure they wont be misused. BTW the Nazis werent particually botherd about immigrants. They were more intrested in getting certain types out of the country.
